Superheroes inspire us and help us believe we can do all that we set our minds to. Black superhero stories, however, don’t always reach mainstream audiences, leaving young Black children few characters to identify with. Host Roy Wood Jr. sits down with Daily Show writer, Ashton Womack, Beyond the Scenes senior producer, Aaron LaMarr Burleson, and contemporary artist, Hebru Brantley, to discuss how Black superhero stories have more capacity to bring authentic Black experiences to the big screen.

As a white man, when I see a black superhero, I don’t say “Oh no! That’s not a white superhero!” Is there something wrong with me?
ReplyStatic is my favorite black superhero. Why didn’t blade get the credit black panther got
ReplyThey need to introduce Blue Marvel/Luke Cage aka Power Man (HEROES FOR HIRE).
ReplyI like this podcast
ReplyI want to see a Jon Stewart Green Lantern movie.
ReplyBlack folks are still underrepresented and overlooked with a real story to support them.
ReplyA movie about Blue Marvel needs to be made. Literally a Marvel’s version of Superman.
ReplyWhen I saw Black Panther the thing that bothered me was that a white guy (the CIA agent?) was even in it. In a casino that was full of people from the East there’s a white guy? Why not an agent who would fit in? I understand the bad guy who was an Afrikaner, but a white guy still having to help save the day just felt wrong. Am I wrong? I’m white by the way.
ReplyEveryone’s feelings will be hurt the first time a black guy is called Dark knight and the entire police department is after him. Man of steal……jokes write themselves. And who needs fictional characters when there are real life hero’s like Dr. King, Ali, Thomas Sowell etc…and have we all just given up on Blankman.
ReplyOne name. Icon. Forget Superman. Give the world Icon.
ReplyGreatly show. Please share…..
