ReplySomebody on Seth’s staff should prescreen the audience to eliminate the squealers and shriekers. I mean, enthusiasm is fine, I’m all for it, but really. Whatever happened to “yay” and “hurrah”?
ReplyI remember going to see the Ed Sullivan show live in NYC in the ’50s, and the pre-show coaches told us all to get our coughing done and out of the way so that it wouldn’t interrupt the proceedings, so we all coughed and cleared our throats, but sure enough, as soon as Ed was on stage and the applause died down, some jerk did a few loud coughs just so that he could go home and hear himself on TV later that night.

ReplyYears back when Seattle Men’s Chorus was rehearsing in the basement of First United Methodist Church I suddenly heard the basses screaming like schoolgirls, ” It’s Harvey! It’s Harvey!” Harvey stepped up next to the director on the podium and said, ” I thought I’d come by and say hi. I’m in town for previews and I know you all are fans.”
