Let’s also not forget Israel has rejected every attempt at a two-state solution or any peace talks. They even went so far as to assassinate their own PM because he made the cardinal sin of getting close to forging a peace deal with Palestine.

People keep saying that Hamas launched 4000 rockets. They don’t say whether any reached their target or that any Israelis were harmed. Did Iron Dome eliminate them all? If it did then isn’t that the response? Did hundreds of children have to die from the Israeli post-response. Or is it just an excuse to make the Palestinians suffer even more. The Nazis used to respond to Resistance fighters actions by rounding up civilians and shooting them. Is this any different?

“there is an undercurrent of anti-Semitism in the disproportionate criticism of Israel”
Likewise whenever the subject involves Islam there is an undercurrent of Islamophobia in Maher’s disproportionate criticism of Gaza. Actually it is not an undercurrent it is an overt bias from someone I would expect to be able to have a more nuanced view.

Maher constantly refers to the treatment of women in Gaza yet seems unaware of the fact that in the right wing orthodox community women are treated just as horribly, not to mention the homophobia that is as vehement and virulent as in the worst of Islamic theocracies. The views of this ultra right orthodox community are clearly supported by nearly 50% of the electorate. Hatred of Arabs is part and parcel. The “brown” Israelis Maher champions face all kinds of discrimination in Israeli society. Calling Hamas, that is out of touch with the wishes of the majority of Gazans, a Mafia is on the money, however it is equally true of Netenyahu’s gov’ts – his attempts to dodge corruption charges on par with Trump’s fake news criticisms as a way to try to subvert legal proceedings. For someone so attuned to the fraud that is Trump it is puzzling that Netenyahu merits a free pass.
The liberal democratic Israel that Maher trumpets is a shrinking minority, that is an Israel that has been replaced with one that is hardly in line with the kind of liberal progressive views Maher is so fond of and is a blind spot, bias even, that seems out of place in his otherwise even-handed commitment to holding no cows sacred.

The people who make these rules need to rethink the nature of money. At present it isn’t pegged to anything with intrinsic value, such as it used to be, (i.e. gold) although gold has no real value other than being a relatively scarce mineral. Check the U.R.V., Unit of Real Value, that cured the runaway inflation of Venezuela several years ago.

The Palestinians are always firing what are called ‘rockets’ because they are glorified fireworks. Israelis fire American missiles capable of blowing up buildings. 1,000 rockets cannot do the damage of one missile ! Israel has just asked the USA for $1billion, for replacement missiles to replace those fired at the west bank. Every four or five years Israel ‘mows the lawn’ – we have just witnessed the latest example hundreds of Palestinians killed for each Israeli.

No Bill it’s you who doesn’t know your history on Israel-Palestine, you’ve always resorted to rightwing Israeli talking points on this issue. The “Israel is always perfect” crowd always like to pretend that Iraeli public opinion is all far right. Funny how you let the silly “Latinx” stuff go – for once – so you could hurry forward and bash Palestine. Otherwise this congressman seems like a sensible guy.

Ritchie Torres, Smart, well spoken, cares and works for the under privileged. No wonder the Republicans are trying to change all the voting laws. It’s hard to win elections with rapists and people who believe in Jewish Space Lasers and who compare the waring of a surgical mask during a pandemic to the systematic genocide of 6 million people.

Ok, so if someone came in and evicted you from the home you and your family have lived in for decades would you be a bit pissed? If a country in violation of international law took your land away from you and built housing which was not available to you, but only illegal settlers, would you be pissed? If a country, illegally usurped land which was supposed to become your capital, would you be pissed? If your future was dependent on a country which was in violation of 62 UN resolutions would you be pissed? I am not anti-Semitic. Only anti-Zionist.

They have been living under the lubricated machine of occupation since they were born. Yea, try to get to their heads, not to the BS my government is selling you. We are not the victim here, and the more you treat us this way, the deeper the apartheid mechanism is rooted.

Thank you Ritchie Torres and Bill Maher for supporting Israel and spreading the truth. I’m a former NY living in Israel. Most of us, if not all citizens, on both sides just want to live side by side in peace. I live in a “war zone” and I’m more afraid for my fellow Jews in the US because of the violence against them due to the “anti-Zionists”. The progressives/woke are either the ones spreading the hate or silent when it comes to hating the Jews. Apparently hating Jews is the only form of hate that is not only tolerated but allowed in their world.

Bill’s still talking about Israel in either/or terms. Everyone seems to have their own myths about the Middle East. I self-toured Israel, including Gaza and the West Bank. I know others who took those guided tours that only show them what they already believe. My takeaway was that there is much average people on both sides agree on, starting with their politicians and their habit of stirring up trouble when it’s politically expedient.

8:50 Bill is obviously ignorant about Islam stating that Muslims treat their women worse than porn?! I am a female Muslim. I am NOT a feminist because the men around me are awesome (father, uncles, grand uncles, cousins, brothers, neighbors, teachers, professors, bosses, subordinates, friends, people on the street)… and through my personal experiences I develop a personal believe that men are God’s best creations who are created FOR the benefit of God’s favorites: Women. I believe that the universe is created by God FOR ME and inclusive in that universe are men who obviously naturally love doing good things that benefit women.

I am a former Country Head of a large Multi-National Company, currently a Ph.D student and own several businesses. I have led a team of more than 600 people, 97% of which were men. I also KNOW that I was born lucky because I was born in Indonesia (a predominantly Muslim country) and hit the jackpot as a Minang, a culture that puts women in the center of their culture because the culture claims to base everything on Qur’an (being a Muslim is a given in Minang culture just like how being a Catholic is in holding papacy office).

Which country has the angriest feminist women? Definitely NOT Indonesia, the largest Muslim country in the world, because the women are happy here because their lives as women are awesome. For the most part of my life I never understood why the women in Bill’s country have that feminist movement. Indonesia has had female warriors since forever, Minangkabau is said to have been established by a woman, there has been female legislators in Indonesia since 1955, we have had female president and none of them was part of female movement, heck I never understood about the concept of glass ceiling because I doesn’t exist for me or any women around me. Men came pleading to me to take them as my team members and I have had female bosses since the very first time I worked.
Bill is obviously ignorant about Islam and he shamelessly spread false information in purpose, out of _uninformed_ hatred.

Bill has also repeatedly lied about having read Qur’an because I can prove that he hasn’t. His comments about Qur’an is just like an old grandma’s comment who claims to have read Harry Potter books and says that the books need to banned because they teach black magic.

“we have to be careful not to reduce everything to an overarching narrative…every conflict has its own complexity and none of that should be ignored in favor of an overarching narrative that purports to explain everything.”
And then he turns around and reduces the conflict to a cliche, oversimplistic rhetorical question. No one expects Israel to do nothing. But people do expect Israel to do better, and that is not a double standard any more than expecting the United States to do better.

The problem with Hamas in Palestine is they don’t want peace nor do they want Israel to be their own state. There turned down 3 peace talks in 2008 under George W Bush, in 2000 under Bill Clinton, and in 1947 under the UN Resolution 181, the Partition Resolution.

Rep. Torres: you’re representing NY and one can understand why you look at things from a pro-Israel lens; but history did not begin with firing of rockets by Hamas.
Bill: more silly arguments and justifications from you (you’re okay until when it comes to Israel). Gaza is only 20 mile wide with close to 2 million population. So nearly anywhere you shoot something you’re close to part of the population. Also, you don’t ruthlessly bomb and murder people just because they don’t share your values!! If we were to apply your logic to the U.S, half of the states in the south should have been bombed!
