John Oliver discusses why millions of people have been kicked off of Medicaid, why Medicaid access was difficult even before the current “unwinding”, and what would happen if fruits and vegetables could talk.

“the majority of those on Medicaid, about 63%” stretching the meaning of majority there a bit, John.

Reply3:29 actually a fruit is desired to be eaten by the tree so it would more likely and more disturbing say “oh yeah take a big bite! Ooohhh 😊”
ReplyHey the peach is creepy 😂
ReplyIn summary how things work:
Republican-run states will prefer to wind down a program that benefits 98% of the population because of the 2% people who exploit the system.
Democrat-run states will not try to make the systems more efficient so that no eligible one loses coverage and thus become the casus belli for republicans.
ReplyIt’s madness to think the solution to the inherently disincentivized nature of a government program is to make the program bigger.
Do away with it entirely. Shift back to charitable organizations, and a culture of multi-generational living. Watch as the new programs and groups become incredibly efficient and both cutting out fraud and providing for those who need it. And watch health care costs plummet as well.
But I’m not holding my breath. There’s too much money to be made off of offering a magic wand to voters.
ReplyYou are wrong near the end when the talking fruit and vegetables claim that if you are single, childless, and with no disabilities, you can’t qualify for Medicaid. The exception is when an adult child moves in and takes care of a parent who would otherwise need Nursing Home care. It’s cheaper for the government to provide Medicaid for that adult child turned full time caretaker than to pay for that parent’s Nursing Home bills.
ReplyThis is so incredibly important. Thank you for explaining this.
ReplyI do wish he had addressed the absurd financial cut off for medicaid as well. In most states you can’t make over $20,000 or you won’t qualify. These days even people making $40,000 are struggling.
ReplyIf only medical care wasn’t a for-profit industry in this country.
ReplyIf Medicaid didn’t exist I would’ve either died of cancer. Or my entire family would’ve been bankrupt, homeless and hopeless.
Replyunwinding = not for you if you’re white
Replyyes, Mr. Comer, people become very frustrated when they see YOU
ReplyThe secret service we’re at my house for “reasons”.
ReplyMy dog didn’t bite them so it was fine.
I honestly want to john Oliver to give up comedy and do news full time
ReplyAnyone seeing this on disability, look into “ABLE investment accounts” state run accounts allowing people on ssi to keep more than $2000 and not affect their benefits. 🤟💞
ReplyWhy after so many years is the US medical system still broken? Europe can do it. Insurance is obligated and regulated. Health insurance providers cannot refuse to accept you.
ReplyAnother year, another way healthcare continues to get costlier and worse.
Reply13:05 I wonder the very same thing about politicians in general.
ReplyMaybe leave that POS doctor in his BM for a few days, see if he changes his opinion. That really pissed me off. Utter trash! F*** that guy.
