ReplyI accidentally found my family tree online while I was looking for a family member’s grave. Most of my family is unremarkable. Not descended from anyone famous, but one great grandfather x10 or 11 I found was a judge and he owned slaves. I read his will and he listed them there as property to be divided among his children. While this was so weird to me and of course shocking, the more I read this man was so completely at odds with who we are today, he might as well have been an alien. He was sexist, a religious extremist, and biased. He should have never been a judge. I think he was a lunatic. Then I looked at how many people along the way diluted that guy’s blood. My great grandfather was written about. He was a very sweet, good man who loved animals and his community. I look at this history as how far we have progressed. Not where we came from. I’d never want to go back there! Shocking to see so many who want to wallow in the worst of times.
