Activist, author and acting legend George Takei shares the gut-wrenching story of his family’s experience during WWII, when racism and war hysteria led the United States government to imprison 125,000 Japanese-Americans in internment camps. His new book, “My Lost Freedom,” chronicles his family’s experience in a way that makes it easy for parents to teach their children about this dark period in America’s recent history.

Young Japanese-Americans were allowed out of the internment camps if they joined the US army.

These men were placed into the 442nd infantry unit – to this day it remains the most highly decorated unit per capita in US history.

Little, meaning 7 and up. Please don’t read to preschool. Because we want children to be able to understand and not over-react. Become depressed. Or think this is how it should be.

They had those camps in Australia too unfortunately 😢. It was like they were blamed for the attempted invasion during WW2.

    The Americans did not imprisoned
the American nazis, the Germans or the Italians,
    being all Europeans.
They only imprisoned the Japanese. Racists much?

I like Takei very much, he’s such a character,
but he didn’t say “Oh, my!”.
I guess, the subject was very serious for humour.
