US national anthem: The only one that is an (over-)extended question…. 🙂

Have you met the French national anthem (La Marseillaiss)?

Very good point about politics. Here in Canada, everyone I know directs 90% of their complaints at the party they voted for (myself included) and not really much at the opposition parties.

To be fair, the french national anthem talks about cutting the throats of your sons and companions.

I am sorry to burst your bubble, but the best anthem is actually NOT a national anthem, but many Aussies think it should be: “I Am Australian”. If you have never heard it, like most people who hear it, you will say after listening to it: “Gosh, I wish I was Australian, too”. By the way, this stirring and wonderful song was written by Bruce Woodley, of the Seekers.

The Irish anthem may not have exploding bombs, but it has screeching guns, a hail of bullets and soldiers rushing into battle to be free from tyranny. 😬 🇮🇪

In France, La Marseillaise may not have bombs bursting, but it has about everything else. It calls on the people to arise to eliminate bloodthirsty despots and their foreign mercenaries who want to enslave them .

    “Aux armes, citoyens !

    Formez vos bataillons !
    Marchons ! Marchons !”

But it also says to be magnanimous towards those enrolled by force to fight the people and it doesn’t appeal to deity. It has better music too, though the original music from an English drinking song “To Anacreon[ancient Greek poet] in Heaven” for the US anthem is quite good.

Stephen felt like you got offended. Trevor didn’t say anything insulting towards your country.

This is America’s biggest problem – you guys are waaay too reverent towards your own nation. So much so you fail to see any flaws in it.

Martin Freeman had the same effect on you, Stephen.

The notion of American Exceptionalism is bread into you guys.

You wont see it coming. It’ll hurt bad when someone puts a ding in that armour.

It’s true; the US anthem has guns bursting in air. But, La Marseillaise (French national anthem) has people’s throats being slit. Both songs are about war, so the lyrics aren’t pretty, but they’re equally beautiful.

The case in Japan. We absolutely criticize those we voted for. Check. Do we play our national anthem before sporting events? Absolutely, so no check. Some say it symbolizes the pre WWII Imperial Japan, but we still play it pretty frequently. Does it go well with the word, bxxch? No, but wait til you hear the French national anthem. Way more brutal than that of the States.

Ukrainian anthem is also not like many other countries’, it sings literally about how people will fight for their freedoms and liberties, and all the enemies will melt like dew in the sun…
