Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Talking Heads join Stephen for an epic conversation celebrating the 40th anniversary of their seminal concert film, “Stop Making Sense.” In the first part of the interview, watch as David Byrne, Jerry Harrison, Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth share stories from the earliest days of the band, including moments that weren’t shown on television. “Stop Making Sense” is in theaters now, and David Byrne’s new musical, “Here Lies Love,” is on Broadway. Stick around for more with Talking Heads!

Wild Wild Life is probably THE most underrated song of all time. I cannot get enough of the Talking Heads.
ReplyMy favorite band of all time!! Genius!!
ReplyThanks so much for this.
ReplyRecord one more album.
Call it ’23.
Those were the days
ReplyWhat fun! What a joy and privilege to listen to them reminisce. I saw them only once, at Heatwave north of Toronto in 1980. The expanded lineup drifted out a bit at a time ’til you had a neurotic 21st century Sly and the Family Stone-style dance party in the sunshine, Tina crouched low and bopping around, her Pebbles Flintstone top-knot bobbing with the groove. Brilliant.
ReplyInteresting to see Byrne sharing a stage with Frantz even after his hitjob memoir. Perhaps i am reading to much into it, but the body language on the left side of the couch seems somewhat chilly.
ReplyGratz to the band for playing them out to one of my favorite Talking Heads song (also a cover).
ReplyStephen Colbert – I made the same mistake… 1982, Sheffield University, England. Second row from stage centre tickets for the blossoming U2. They’d just gone from playing the Student Union bar venue the year before to playing the city’s concert hall in ‘82. I panicked about the Stats exam scheduled the following day. Why oh why 😢. Anyway… Talking Heads were just the coolest and best from America to be played on record decks throughout my college days, and Stop Making Sense came along to help me forget that U2 error. Superb. Music greats.
ReplyThey toured Australia as part of a dual concert line up. One night was Talking heads and The Pretenders. The other night was The Eurythmics and Simple Minds. Wasn’t much more than $15 for the ticket for either show. Nice to see the animosity of previous years dropped. There were some bitter comments e.g. Chris said “David Byrne only wants to play with David Byrne.” Some real hurt and this is affirmation of the band and an Epic live film. Rocked my world and EVERYONE was saying “You have to see this!!!” A brilliant idea with so many magic moments beginning with “Hi, I gotta tape I wanna play you.”
ReplyYou have to tour. You can’t deny humanity. It would be massive.
ReplyPls do the numbering of clips every time from now on in case do don’t upload it accordingly.
Reply4:12 lol
Replylove their stories from the early years
ReplyProbably tops Stephen’s most favorite guests list Respect
ReplyAt the time I lived just off the Portobello Rd in West London, and the film was showing every weekend night at midnight at an independent cinema on the Portobello Rd. I think I must have seen that film about 12 weekends in a row. It was a total gas!
ReplyYES! NUMBERED!!!!
ReplyThe film, in a cinema, is, incredible!! Go see it!! 👌🏿
ReplyI know numbering the parts of the interview is just a small quality of life thing, but I appreciate it very much
ReplyAny band that’s not punk and gets called punk is xtra cool
ReplySpeaking of covers and Talking Heads, Duran Duran released a cover of Psycho Killer this week that is just *chef’s kiss*.
