I could hear the crickets!
ReplyThe bleak reaction from Conan and Sarah when Sona said you don’t need to pay people to be your friends was the hardest I’ve laughed at this week.
ReplyNever liked silverman after the racist jokes
ReplySarah’s laugh is so cute haha
ReplyThe therapist Sarah was talking about is Pamela Stephenson who was an actor and comedian for many years. She starred in the sketch show ‘Not The Nine O’Clock News’ along with Rowan ‘Mr Bean’ Atkinson, it was on this show she first met Billy Connolly. She became a psychologist in later life.
ReplySona’s joke was not the worst part, the true villain is the person who decided not to cut this AND put it on youtube lol
ReplyGotta give Sarah Silverman props, she read the room, addressed it and then cracked an awesome joke to help Sona feel comfortable again! Great person and comedian!
ReplyIf Conan needs another paid friend I’m available WITH a discount on a monthly booking!
ReplyWow, maybe I’m reading the situation wrong but Conan handled that in such a strange way. Sona made a good joke that was totally in line with the (comedic) premise of this podcast. Conan could’ve committed to the bit by making some quick self-deprecating remarks as he so often does but chose to play it as if he took it personally. Ok, that can be funny if you break the tension later on so that everyone can laugh about it. But then when Sona tries to take the conversation further by saying something sincere and nice about Conan, he coldly does a 180 and tries to change the subject to something totally different. Sarah thankfully addresses the weirdness of the exchange but even then Conan doesn’t show any kind of warmth towards Sona.
I hope they discussed the situation off-air because if I was Sona I wouldn’t feel comfortable making any kind of joke at Conan’s expense after what happened there.
Replyoh no, I’m gonna be 40 this year. This is really it isn’t it? It’s over.
ReplyIn Sona’s defense, here’s the literal CONAF podcast description, as presumably approved by Mr. O’Brien, copied & pasted from TuneIn:
“After 25 years at the Late Night desk
ReplyConan realized that the only people at
his holiday party are the men and
women who work for him. Over the
years and despite thousands of
interviews, Conan has never made a
real and lasting friendship with any of
his celebrity guests. So, he started a
podcast to do just that. Deeper,
unboundedly playful, and free from
FCC regulations, Conan O’Brien Needs
a Friend is a weekly opportunity for
Conan to hang out with the people he
enjoys most and perhaps find some
real friendship along the way.”
she’s the antithesis of funny
ReplyPoor coco….love yourself.
ReplyYeah but to play devil’s advocate… how REAL are these friendships.. if they have to take place in front of a camera or for a podcast…
ReplyInteresting shift in chemistry
ReplyI believe good people build strong characters through their tough times. Our society is a little too afraid of bad emotions and bad times IMO, and puts too much value on avoiding tough emotions instead of tackling them. Anybody who is worth a damn as a person has struggled through something, and taken good lessons from their struggles.
