Yo John Oliver, I am a bit disappointed here with your “I will be watching it anyway” conclusion. The only power we as consumers have to show FIFA that they messed up is to #boycottqatar2022 and boycott all FIFA sponsors. The global football audience needs to send a message by simplky not tuning in. Ad money through TV deals IS the FIFA business, so that is how we can truly hurt them. You should have used your platform to advocate for this. And yes, you should personally be strong enough not to watch the studid games. Come on, you spend 20 mins talking about the human rights abuse and then it’s all fair game to watch this horrible tournament? I very much disagree. Also, the #boycottqatar2022 momvement has been very strong in Germany’s active fan scene with huge banners in many stadiums. Less present elsewhere, which is disappointing, and I think it is also disappointing that your team failed to pick it up or speak to to representatives of the movement.
Replybycott dont watch world cup tv
ReplyThe highest temperature I’ve ever experienced was about 43 degrees and it was hot even in front of a fan. It’s crazy that people are WORKING in 50 DEGREES.
ReplyChildrens trapped in the basement waiting the party to finish so they can be punished again.
Reply….
He’s talking about Switzerland.
Please don’t watch! Boycotting can actually help, considering that so much revolves around advertising.
ReplyQatar do it and that’s all
ReplyYou recorded this for nothing.
I notice there’s no mention of the two faced twat called Morgan Freeman!? “The voice of God” – my arse.
ReplyGo watch recent videos from Johnny Harris.
ReplyThe way audience’s reaction changed from nothing when hearing 52C to a big *gasp* after knowing 125F was really funny.
ReplyThe fact of the matter is that Qatar (and Saudi Arabia especially) have the world by the balls. Their oil alone has shielded them from any true global scrutiny or consequences, despite the extremist and byzantine regime that they uphold.
I don’t see any pathway towards justice for those that suffered and/or died for building this Fifa funded McCity.
Replyand Yet after all this is said the World Cup still kicked off, John is trying his best but People is represented by Leaders they chose to follow. The leaders in all aspects is the reflection of the people if the leaders is morally bankrupt so is the people who voted for them.
Replyfootball is the real mirror of how human kind functions, we claim about it, but then we can’t stop watching it. We are all accomplices of it, this is just humanity at its finest!
ReplyCountries should be boycotting it plain and simple just crush fifa
ReplyI was a migrant worker in Qatar for 2.5 years. While lucky enough not to have been doing a labourer job, the systems they have for hospitality workers are also extreme.
We’re talking 60+ hour work weeks, the government making it near impossible to move from one employer to another, employers frequently getting away with cutting salaries and stealing end of service compensation.
I once went to the hospital to get a prescription for antidepressants, where they procededed to lock me up in a freezing cold room for over 8 hours refusing to tell me why and made threats of indefinitely moving me to a facility to be put under observation. I eventually escaped by telling them I have friends who work for an international news organisation.
I was caught kissing a girl at a party while the police came by to break up an argument between a few men next door. She was promptly deported.
Moreover, I had a colleague who got raped and after being found by a Qatari, was convinced not to go to a hospital or report the incident as she could be prosecuted under Sharia law.
We used to joke about purposefully losing toes, teeth or fingers on the job, as the employer would have to compensate us for that, and maybe then we could afford the leave.
ReplyFIFA,, Golden cups,, Olympians,,, stay tuned apparently lol
