In this podcast exclusive, Daily Show Correspondent Michael Kosta and Segment Director Sebastian Ischer discuss their trip to Eagle Pass, Texas and whether the media’s narrative around the border crisis is accurate, how Kosta tries to find the funny when dealing with complex issues, how local residents are being impacted by the militarization at the border, and how conservatives are exploiting this issue.

ReplySo true, Kosta. Just a photo-op!!!!! Tragic.
ReplyLoved that woman! Pendejos indeed!!! 👍👏😁

ReplyHow about a new term for the GOP photo op’ers: pretendejos.
ReplyPendejos is somewhere between Morons & and Mofos.
ReplyI remember John Oliver did a piece on how overrun Mt. Everest is, so he created a website where you can get photoshopped onto the top of the mountain. Maybe you can do something similar for Republican governors and the border so they don’t have to waste jet fuel and taxpayer money just for a photo?
ReplyWhen the one lady called immigrants “wet backs” I wanted to reach through my phone and ……!!!!!….😡🤬😡
ReplyIt’s really nice to see Kosta speak out of character for a minute. You know there’s a reasonable, thoughtful person in there, but much like Colbert did during his Report days, he plays his character so well and so consistently that it’s just cool to see him take off the mask.
ReplyIt’s refreshing to see Michael natural, not in his comedic role. He’s an integral part to the Daily Show crew. 💚
ReplyMichael Kosta, I hope that you visit the border again and you can cross over to Piedras Negras, and we will make you some “Carne Asada” and can talk about the symbiotic relationship of Eagle Pass – Piedras Negras, and how migration affects the people on both sides and also why the politics from Washington and Mexico affect not only commerce but families on both sides.
ReplyThis was very interesting.
ReplyI have no idea how to solve the problem. There is the ethical angle, the economical angle, the safety angle, and the future angle.
I don’t blame politicians for not finding a solution on the spot. I hate the not even trying part, the lies, the propaganda.
That is where the comedy is imo.
That govenor of North Dakota needs to address his border. Phx. AZ has been taken over by Canadians, and I find their manners unsettling.
ReplyReally great to see the thought process behind pieces like this.
ReplyMichael Kosta is probably the strongest all around host for the Daily Show other than Jon Stewart right now
ReplyI love it when comedians can bring humour to awful situations without punching down, being glib, or belittling the issue 😍
This is also the first time I’ve seen Kosta out of character and I respect his humour so much more now 💙
ReplyKosta doesn’t even need to try to be funny. All he has to do is let the Trumpies talk, and they will provide the laughs on their own.
