I don’t know how many actually believe the Big Lie – too many; that’s clear at least. However, I consider that most Trumpians know exactly what Trump is and what he’s doing. He’s maybe their last chance to have a white racist running the country. He almost got enough votes to carry on. When he didn’t , their only way out was to call the election a fraud. They’ll never win the popular vote and so are looking at ways to circumvent free and fair elections. One way is a single-party authoritarian state with them at the helm. And they will do it if allowed to.
I get the fact that these people are people and have their reasons and Jordan, while making fun of them, is empathetic. I have a question about that though. The humor Jordan gets from these people generally is that the ones who are interviewed don’t seem to really understand the movement they’re behind or they haven’t thought through the contradictions. I get that probably a lot of people may not want to talk to Jordan but I also assume that most interviews in the field don’t go real well from a comedy standpoint and so never see the light of day whether it be it just doesn’t work or instead of comedy there is hostility. However, I’m wondering if Jordan runs across people who are more conversant with their views and who understand the movement more than the ones who show up on television. In other words, does Jordan’s interviews show a representative sample of who is out there or are there more angry and/or machiavellian types who know exactly what these movements are up to.
I’ve always felt that Trump was not so much a disease as a symptom of one. And the disease is populism, which happens when enough people feel left behind and ignored and are suffering. An excellent book about this subject is Fiona Hill _Nothing for You Here._ She shows in great detail how this is happening in the US, UK, Russia, and in Europe.
Jordan has to deal with violence and stupidity every time he goes to a trump gathering.. I applaud the entire Daily Show crew for their courage to tell the truth in such dangerous times! If Republicans take power again expect a free press to vanish!!
I understand that NOW is the time to demonize and dehumanize the Trump supporters.

This is true. While many have begun to lighten up, the stalwart Trumpsters are hunkering down. Unfortunately for the rest of us, we know that a few crazy people can still do a lot of damage. We gotta see this through, all the way.
I have great respect for Jordan as he mingles with the dumbest and most deplorable people in the US. It would have crushed my soul to interact with these delusional slime for even a short time.

ReplyThis phenomenon is not only present in the trump supporters. I see it in the transgender community, black community, nonbinary etc.. Its everywhere.
