Greg Gutfeld and guests discuss how NPR is launching a disinformation reporting team on ‘Gutfeld!’

FOX News Channel (FNC) is a 24-hour all-encompassing news service delivering breaking news as well as political and business news. The number one network in cable, FNC has been the most-watched television news channel for 18 consecutive years. According to a 2020 Brand Keys Consumer Loyalty Engagement Index report, FOX News is the top brand in the country for morning and evening news coverage. A 2019 Suffolk University poll named FOX News as the most trusted source for television news or commentary, while a 2019 Brand Keys Emotion Engagement Analysis survey found that FOX News was the most trusted cable news brand. A 2017 Gallup/Knight Foundation survey also found that among Americans who could name an objective news source, FOX News was the top-cited outlet. Owned by FOX Corporation, FNC is available in nearly 90 million homes and dominates the cable news landscape, routinely notching the top ten programs in the genre.

For Tyrus. I also want to believe we used to have real journalists, but Walter C was a globalist and the 3 big news media companies definitely helped spin the Tet Offensive (a huge US Military victory) into a strategic loss. They were leftists, although not as bad as the ones we clearly see today.

As to the idea that fake news has always existed may have something to it. But as an older American who was alive back then, the fake stuff we got was just false narratives promulgated by government. These were dutifully reported by the media, but if they had any reason to suspect these narratives were false, they eventually investigated and reported the truth.

Tyrus makes an excellent point as well. Prior to the advent of CNN in 1980, no TV news organization was expected to make a profit. Newspapers had a slant, of course, to suit their advertisers, but it was an article of journalistic faith that opinions belonged on a clearly marked editorial page, separate from news. There was also a staff of editors who looked at every news submission on TV or print or radio to test if for objectivity. Even Walter Cronkite, who never let his personal opinions be known until he was no longer a newscaster, had to submit his broadcasts to an editor for actual fact checking. The media still got things wrong, but not nearly as often as today.

Enter the 24 hour news cycle and the internet, where is it routinely more important to be first than to be accurate. There are no editors, and any kid with a mobile phone can pass for a journalist. And today, ad revenue is based on clicks and views. Outlets have found that the more controversy and outrage they produce, the more money they make. This model dooms any sort of objective reporting. This is a shame because it also dooms the republic unless corrected, because a free and fair media is absolutely required in a free society. Sadly, we may in fact be too late to do anything about this in our nation.

8:33 So about 2-3 years ago, I was talking with my dad who was 77 at the time, and I said to him, “Hey dad. I know I wasn’t exactly studying the political landscape as a kid, but I don’t remember the news media being so obviously in the tank for one political party as they are now. Was it just because I didn’t pay attention or has this become a new thing with the news media? I mean CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, MSNBC, etc. ALL of them are so blatant with their bias reporting nowadays and just absolutely adore the Democrats, never a negative thing to say about any Democrat or the Democrat Party, and yet the vitriol and the hatred for Republicans and the Republican Party makes it very hard to watch the news and feel like I am getting an honest take from people that are supposed to be reporting objective facts, and leaving their personal bias out of the stories. Is this new or has it always been like this?”… And his response was, “Hell no it wasn’t always like this. Sure there were some, and probably most, news organizations/reporters leaned left, but you had a hard time knowing for sure. All this blatant rooting for one party over another only popped up when Obama was running and then it REALLY became obvious after he was elected. After he was elected the news as we knew it to be, objective unbiased facts being told, that all disappeared. There are no more objective news stations. Fox news is close, but they aren’t completely unbiased, although they do hold Republicans accountable far more than all those other news channels hold the Democrats accountable. I have yet to see them ask the real hard questions, putting the pressure on ANY Democrat. Like you, son, I have stopped watching the news altogether except to catch the weather and the sports scores. It is a sad time in this country right now because the news media was supposed to be the people’s way to hold the politicians accountable by letting us know what is going on and demanding the politicians explain themselves, no matter which party they were with.”
It has become a sad time in this country and the only answer I see to remedy the problems we have as a nation, the divisions in this nation, is sadly: war. I pray I am wrong but I don’t see any other option.
