“The Yankees pledged to donate $40 million to the affected areas, but the immediate community has barely seen a dime from the team. And more importantly, they haven’t seen a World Series in like 20 years.” Desus Nice dives into the trend of billionaire franchise owners building stadiums that cost the taxpayers lots of money, and for little benefit, in this Long Story Short. #DailyShow #Comedy
Nice work!!! This issue needs more attention!
Replyhere in Denver when they built the new Empower Field and Ball Arena, I wondered why multi-billion dollar industries needed government funding to build their own facilities.
Replyyankees won in 2009
ReplyYeah im sorry Desus but you’re not the host for this show
ReplyBecause the people have no say in spending funds or making laws in America. We just pay the bills and get told we are lazy and ungrateful
ReplyA publicly-funded venue should be owned by the public, and available for public events. Private concerns can lease it for their other uses. If the private business needs exclusive control, they should pay for it.
ReplyDesus has gone Hollywood
ReplyEvery pro stadium is taxpayer-fund, and 100% funded in the case of NFL stadiums. Owners are all billionaires, have a monopoly franchise and guaranteed TV contracts so they can’t lose money no matter how bad the team is. The economic impact is zero!
ReplyYup, this is happening in Philly. They’ll build it in Chinatown and displace all the business and apartments there. Its terrible. We don’t need yet another stadium especially in center city with traffic. These are low paying jobs
ReplyThank you for talking about this
ReplyBut those poor impoverished Billionaires don’t have enough money to build or renovate stadiums! You’re soo mean.
Replyman, Desus is awesome!
ReplyThis was very informative.
ReplyIf I’m paying to build the thing, I should get in free.
ReplyIt’s been a honor to see this brothers ascend to these highs.
ReplyBecause the average American citizen is absolutely lost in their own country, that’s predatory capitalism for you.
ReplyI hate living in Florida
ReplyTruth, Desus! This is so important and cities need to be refunded!!!!
