Southern Georgia/North Florida with S.C. roots. Stuffing was the bread based side regardless of if it was in the bird or not. Dressing in my family was the giblet and boiled egg gravy that went on the stuffing, but not the bird. The bird got regular gravy.
I watch your channel in part to escape how awful things are in the world but I was very moved by your introduction. Whats happening in Palestine is horrible and I’m glad people are being so vocal about it, whether on YouTube, at protests or on social media generally.
Also, I’m not sure if anyone already said this in the comments but when Peeta said he’d have spared himself a lot of trouble if he’d given the bread to the pig, he means because Katniss would dead. That happened shortly after her dad died and she didn’t know how to hunt yet so her and her family were starving. The bread gave her the energy to keep surviving and I think she turned 12 shortly afterwards and could sign up for extra food from the Capitol by entering her name in the games more than once. Either way, she wouldn’t have been alive to volunteer for Prim and they wouldn’t be the star crossed lovers from district 12, so even if he died in the hunger games if he was still chosen, it would’ve been a less complicated and tortured existence than what the Capitol did to him to hurt Katniss.
It’s called “stuffing” because that’s what it used to be, the bread stuffed inside the bird to soak up the juices. But too many people were not cooking it enough, so the authorities said to quit stuffing it in.
Dressing is served on the side, typically with meat, broth, and soup (cream of chicken) in it. Stuffing is stove top, straight out of the box (so with water and butter).
This isn’t a matter of opinion, they are 2 different things. Plus, cooking stuffing helps harbor bacteria and makes your bird cook longer, resulting in drier meat. Dressing is superior.
Stuffing is made inside the bird with less flavor control & variety while dressing is made on the outside in many different versions. Dressing is made from cornbread while stuffing can be made with either bread or cornbread. In the south, those are two completely different dishes. Dressing is made from a wet batter that couldn’t be stuffed in the bird & a lot of people make a giblet gravy for it. 🙄
“Dressing” is usually made because the bird doesn’t hold enough “stuffing”.

They are different things.
ReplyIt should be dressing because stuffing a turkey with dressing dries out all the meat.
ReplyI see a little Tom Selleck in Peter Dinklage. (No pun intended, Peter.)

ReplyWell that’s interesting, let’s see what a chef thinks about that cuz those are two different things completely.
ReplyIt’s stuffing if it was cooked and served from being inside the turkey. Dressing is made on the side and “dresses” the plate
