ReplyThis congressman is just trying to explain away the lack of willingness of Dems to restore bipartisan cooperation to the house. Someone needs to be the adult in the room, we know that the GOP is screwed because of Trump, so it needs to be Dems. IF Dems are smart they can choose the most sane member of the GOP for speaker and it will probably get enough GOP votes to make it happen. Instead they will cling to belligerence and inevitably spend the next year lamenting how Biden cannot get anything done under speaker Jordan, completely lacking the self awareness that they could have made a difference and chose not to because they thought there was political gain in a GOP extremist becoming speaker. I have no respect for anyone who ignores that bipartisan compromise is what the framers intended and instead foments chaos to make political gains from the optics.

ReplyWhy should they? McCarthy and Republicans denigrate and lie about Democrats every day. They are conducting politically driven sham impeachment hearings into the sitting Democratic president, and McCarthy unilaterally started those hearings. McCarthy has done zero to work with Democrats or try to build even a smidgen of trust. Democrats vote for their own speaker, why would they vote for a Republican speaker?
