Watch as Rachel Maddow and Stephen Colbert react in real time to news that the House of Representatives passed a bill to fund the government with all but two Democrats voting in support. Rachel’s latest book, “Prequel: An American Fight Against Fascism,” is available now.

Rachael’s answer at the end smacked of denial. Yes, democracy is the weapon to use when it’s still possible – because demonizing your opponents makes it harder to peel fence sitters off of their movement.
But the view of European anti-fascists, gleaned from watching countries fall to Fascism, is that you also have to be ready to resist violence in the streets.
That hasn’t been useful in America because Trump didn’t go the route of building up a gang and then using the violence of the gang to take over – he got in with full support of the Republican party, and he has not, YET been successful at building up death squads etc. But those may be in the future.
ReplyWe also need justice… because part of democracy is rule of law, and when the fascists are not penalized for violating the law, the people’s power is severely compromised.
We already voted the fascist turd out and he responded with an insurrection. That there is any debate about whether or not he is permitted to run for let alone hold office is entirely unacceptable. The “justice” system is as much a problem as the fascists themselves.
Ergo, Merrick Garbage the traitor general is also a fascist.
ReplyThis was an amazing interview. Rachel is so much more interesting than Barbara.
ReplyYay!
ReplyStephen Colbert, Rachel Maddow! 👍🏾
ReplyShe speaks truth. Whats currently happening in Murrica is so scary to watch as a German who knows a bit about history. You guys are about to lose your democracy to ammoral corrupt fascists.
ReplyIn Rachel Maddow We Trust.
ReplyWhy oh why does every election year have to be scarier than the last one? It’s freaking exhausting…
ReplyThat said, this one clearly matters more, once again.
Rachel is right, we have to get out to volunteer, and at least by all means vote. That’s all it takes. Defend democracy by using your rights in a Democracy. (Or Representative Government, whatever) Just please put Tuesday Nov 5, 2024 on your calendar. Or register to vote early by mail and skip the line!
Friends on the Left, y’all did us in, in 2000. Haven’t forgiven you yet, will never forget, so please don’t make that dumb mistake again.
The best description of the modern Republican Party: “This is not a party that is trying to govern.”
ReplyCompulsory voting and get rid of gerrymander-electoral college
Replyeducation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyRachel Maddow for President
ReplyTeam Democracy is time to suit up! 💪🌊🌊👍💙💙
ReplyIF I were not a Gay man and IF Rachel Maddow were straight? I’d consider dating her. BUT? Ain’t happening. I still admire her immensely.
ReplyNot to make an anti gay joke. Seriously. How about the fact that all of these jackbooted thugs need to be loved by a strong man! They in turn love this strong man. Perhaps love is a bit strong of a word, but apt. They don’t know how to love so this relationship is everything. Please point out to them their own lover is Trump.
ReplyWhere o where is the German Rachel Maddow.
ReplyHonestly I kind of what trump o win because last time he was in office 1 in 325 U.S. Americans improved the gene pool by exiting it. When he destroys any trade, and the average American has to go hungry 3 days a week, they are going to gun each other down in such great numbers it’s going to lead to a sulfur shortage.
ReplyNot so sure that democratic methods will work against fascists. Looking at history; Chamberlain tried to make an agreement with Hitler in Munich autumn 1938. It lasted 6 months; fascists only use democracy and peaceful agreements to improve their positions in a coming war.
ReplyOh, she’s good.
