It /is/ homophobic to claim that it is a predominantly gay thing when that is the only demographic they’re choosing to test in the first place. People are being denied tests because they aren’t gay men, which is bonkers. It may very well be predominantly in the gay community, but it still _also_ needs to be recognized that the testing bias is a homophobic problem that could be putting artifical blame onto that community.

I do feel bad for those who get it. But its true that its a very specific group. And yes they do need good advice. And stick to it.

Humans are much more connected to each other all around the world, and the border between wildlife and humans should be taken seriously (prairie dogs).

Not an STD?? Then why does the CDC have a gay man telling you not to f#ck anyone?? This show is the worst

No, but seriously, how about you stop having sex with dozens of partners? Do you really need sex that much?

A lot of people with symptoms are being denied testing, and it’s skewing the results a bit. Also, monkeypox is not an STD. In fact, it’s more transmissible than co vid. Its blatantly homophobic to treat it’s spread as an STD when it’s not. Prioritizing care for gay men, trans people, and other marginalized groups is the ABSOLUTELY the correct thing to do. But, treating it as “gay disease 2.0” is bigoted and extremely concerning. Specially with the recent increasing stripping away of trans healthcare and roe v wade. There are talks of banning gay and interracial marriage next. So, this framing of monkeypox is deliberate. They need to test both LGBTQ+ people *and* other people who have come in with symptoms. Vaccines specifically being limited to marginalized and at risk groups is understandable. Hearing people with symptoms being denied testing for not being of the marginalized groups is what is strange and leads to the skewed data though, making it seem like it’s specifically high in gay and bi men for having sex. (I say this as a member of a marginalized community that was included in the high risk list). It hard to explain the nuance cause people skim over it. Prioritizing vaccinating and testing gay men and other marginalized groups is important; leaving out groups from TESTING, specially when they are symptomatic, is where there is a problem, as the result makes it seem that it can only spread via sex between gay men when we know it affects all genders and literally is NOT an STD. You can get it from touching the same clothing someone else touched at a department store, toilet seats, sweat, breathing nearby air, etc. etc..

“No, if we adopt the German or Danish or whatever other healthcare system, we’ll all have to wait forever for treatment and the quality will crash through the floor!” – Not only has that always been hogwash, but look who’s really waiting for treatment for months while experiencing the sensation of being stabbed with shards of glass over and over again. But at least you didn’t have to deviate from your religion, neo-liberalism, right?

When you have more than 10% of the public opinion to be “I’m not getting a vaccine because fuck science” is a big eye opener to how fucked this country truly is
