Cultural critic, poet, and best-selling author Hanif Abdurraqib joins Michael Kosta to discuss his new book “There’s Always This Year” and how the game of basketball can illuminate our understanding of time, urgency, and mortality. Abdurraqib reflects on turning 40, how to reframe aging, the kind of ascension we should strive for, and how to utilize nostalgia as a tool for improvement. #DailyShow #Basketball #MichaelKosta

Reply0:58 I had never heard of the book or the author. This I was unexpected and just engaging. I can’t wait to get this book. From the interview I think it will be useful for myself but also as a way to engage with my friends and children.

ReplyI read Hanif’s book on A Tribe Called Quest and it was great. We also wrote for the same online publication at the same time. Congrats on your success Hanif!
ReplyWhat a fantastic interview! I’ve been lucky to have been in Hanif’s orbit for many years now and it’s awesome to see how far he’s come since the first time my jaw dropped seeing him recite a poem at the 2014 National Poetry Slam. This was also my first time even hearing of Michael Kosta and he really made a slam dunk with Hanif here!
ReplyGreat interview from Kosta, and Hanif also incredibly interesting and thoughtful in his responses. I’m sure that book is a gem
