ReplyI noticed that the curves for blues and reds were both trending up since the middle of the Obama years. It seems that the more their policies are enacted, the unhappier the blues become. The reds of course never wanted these policies, so they’re not happy either.

ReplyWho noticed that everyone – men, women, liberal and conservative – experienced a sharp increase in depression starting in 2014? Liberal women were hit a little worse, but everyone is much more depressed.

ReplyThe politics of depression? It takes a depressed person to invent totalitarianism. That person teaches totalitarianism to others and convinces them of it. That new conviction on the part of the students makes them depressed, like their teacher. So, the totalitarianism and the depression spreads through the culture, and might completely take over the culture, with totalitarianism ruling completely, with no exception. That’s where we’re headed today.
What can stop and reverse it completely? It takes identifying the moral premise of totalitarianism and positing the opposite moral premise, then formulating the system of culture which would logically stem from that opposite moral premise and teaching that moral premise and culture, and convincing the students of it. That will start their leaving behind their depression and start their creating and making real the new system of culture stemming from that posited moral premise opposite that of totalitarianism.
The foregoing is very conceptual and abstract, and leaves open many questions, the most important of which is: What IS morality? What is the moral premise of totalitarianism? What is the opposite moral premise to posit which would open the way to the new system of culture, with the psychological freedom and freedom of action it would avail to all, and the material abundance which would follow for anybody who so acts? Many other important questions must be answered. Getting down to the particulars is where the answers are found.
There’s another question which is actually THE most important question, even more important than the most important ones just mentioned. Why did the depressed person who invented totalitarianism get depressed in the first place? That gets down to the basic fact of human nature: the faculty of volition, or of choice. That raises, not just the possibility, but the guarantee, of mistakes, and leads to the question of what IS morality and what is the moral premise to choose.
Stopping and completely reversing the advance of totalitarianism, permanently, is a big job which will take a while, to say the least, for everybody who wants to do it. But, it can be done and, as human beings, we must eagerly do it.
