    I definitely empathize with her confusion about whether or not she had the right to feel grief. I had a friend die tragically and I had only known him for 2 years. We became pretty close because of a shared understanding of Iraq and Afghanistan. When he died, his mother found out that I filed a missing persons report. She wanted to know how I knew. I told her we were pretty close for only knowing each other for that little amount of time. RIP Chris

    Most non-salary jobs will not even allow you bereavement leave for anyone outside of very immediate family members
