Author Salman Rushdie credits some brave strangers with coming to his rescue after he was stabbed, including the fireman who used his thumb to stem the bleeding. Read more about the incident in his latest book, “Knife: Meditations After An Attempted Murder,” which is available now.

“Puritanism is “the haunting fear that some one, somewhere, may be happy”
…..U.S. philosopher Ralph Barton Perry delivered the Howison Lecture at the University of California, Berkeley in 1925…..the quote is often attributed to H. L. Mencken…or…. George Jean Nathan or Nellie McClung or Beverly Gray or John Cleese
😂
ReplyYou nailed it, Salman. Right wing fanatics are humorless cuz of one thing they all have in common, an irony deficiency. Even after million raised and years of research, there is no known cure.
ReplyWe almost lost this wonderful person. Thank you to all the people who came together to save this author.
ReplyMakes sense. The Taliban and Zionists are the least funny people on earth.
ReplyI couldn’t pull my eyes away from this interview. It felt so raw and so honest.
ReplyPoor man, he has been through a lot just for doing his job. May good stuff come his way from now on.
ReplyAnother beautiful interview with a remarkable human. I notice Stephen fiddles with his wedding ring during emotional moments. That’s lovely too. Being in australia – where we have witnessed two horrific public knife attacks in as many days- it resonates to hear a survivor’s voice. Peace seems far away in the world right now. Be safe everyone and share love, not hate.
ReplyNo surprise, his attacker is a Muslim immigrant. The US is now receiving Europe’s and the Middle East’s terror.
Replyhe’s right, bigots have no humor except their one joke that was funny the first time we all heard it 15 years ago
ReplyGod Bless Salman Rushdie!
ReplyThank you for your courage. We will not be cowed!
Semper Paratus.
One of my favorite old French films is called Le Schpountz with Fernandel. There’s a line in it that goes something like ” God gave us laughter to console us for our intelligence.”
ReplyHave always loved that line and thought.
Salman Rushdie, I have been a lifelong fan of your writing and read all your books. Thank you so much for sharing your mind with us.
Vile human being (if that).
ReplyWhat a rare treat!
ReplyThis was such a good interview.
ReplyStephen was holding back with responses like…
“Novak? How was his backhand?”
Reply“14 times? So, fillet of Salman.”
Etc.
Now let’s get an anti-Jewish guest on.
ReplyAwful human being.
Reply❤ WOW STEPHEN COLBERT, SALMAN RUSHDIE’S EXPERIENCE OF LIFE & DEATH IS SCARY…. UNLIKE MINE. I LOVE THE MAN’S CALM & TRULY GOOD SPIRIT ABOUT IT… HE SAYS HIS NAME SALMAN MEANS PEACEFUL, AH! I THANK YOU, THIS HAS BEEN SATISFYINGLY GOOD, HONEST & NO DRAMA, HOW REFRESHING!
ReplyWhat a beautiful man and person! would have liked to have had a much longer interview with Stephen- tad short- he is graceful and funny to listen too!
