Just FYI to everyone in the comments, Cat has been back making music since 2006 and has released a few albums since then and has also done a number of world tours as well 😊.

Love this version as much as I did the original. Many memories in his music. His voice has not weakened nor his artristy. I am happy to see him again.

Just wanna remind everyone why he’s been banned from playing in the United States. He threatened to murder Salman Rushdie on national television. People actually had to die, friend’s of Rushdie were murdered. All because Rushdie wrote a book.

I love Stephen Colbert, but I am very disappointed in him for inviting a man who called for the murder of Salman Rushdie onto his show. Cat Stephens died a long time ago. Only the intolerant and fanatical Yusuf Islam remains. He Never apologized for the multiple times he called for Salman Rushdie’s murder after Rushdie wrote the book “The Satanic Verses” way back in the 1980s. Salman Rushdie had to go into hiding for over ten years when the murderous Ayatollah Khomeni called for his execution, and Cat Stephens, now Yusuf Islam, was a cheer-leader for it. Stephens even went to college campuses and gave speeches to students, saying “the judgement is clear; Rushdie must die”. Nice peaceful statement to make to college students there, Stephens.

Here is a link to a short clip of Cat Stephens making this threat. It is part of a longer British broadcast in which religious violence and freedom of speech is discussed.

By the way, Stephens has gone to considerable trouble to attempt to hunt down and eliminate this proof of his call for murder, which proves his hypocrisy. If he was proud of his original statement of calling for the murder of Salman Rushdie for writing a book, then he should let the video evidence stay. If he isn’t proud of it, then he should apologize to Salman Rushdie after all these years. But like a typical religious fanatic, he is a complete hypocrite.

!! Had to read the video title twice to make sure I got it right the first time. Best performance on the show for me in a while.
