ReplyI heard the word before but I didn’t know all of that bc I’m German (we learn about American history but probably just not as intensively) , very interesting !
ReplyJoe Biden actually lied about being arrested in South Africa fighting for Mandela. Trevor Noah brought Joe on his show and didn’t even fucking ask him about it.
It’s almost as if Trevor Noah works for Joe’s team. Which is odd considering Joe Biden still hasn’t apologized for the 1994 Crime Bill or the mass incarceration of black people which he helped bring about.
ReplyThere were still slaves in Alabama in the 1960s
ReplyCome to Galveston, where Juneteenth happened! Start at Reedy Chapel and join the parade! We live our history here. Even with the virus, it’s going to be a big weekend and the beaches will be packed.
ReplySlavery didn’t end for the brown people in the british and the dutch colonies either. They shipped brown people against their will to work the fields. For instance: the Indians and the Javanese people were shipped to Suriname
ReplyThis was terrific! As a white person I enjoyed the history and she is so funny!
ReplyTexas youre a disappointment for celebrating this bs 😤
ReplyThey always pull out the mammy
ReplyDul-Slayin’ me every time!!! This explanation was awesome. The Daily Show should count as distance learning credit.
ReplyThe fact that it isn’t a national holiday is crazy as hell
ReplyNo can choose to be born White or Black, so its absolutely stupid to hate someone for the nationality or color of their skin. People who are racist are ABSOLUTELY IGNORANT.
ReplyJust wondering. When you know that it is not the 19th of june that ended slavery, but the 6th of december, why would you want to make the wrong date a holiday. Kind of insulting to people who were still slaves, isnt it? The 19th is a holiday in Texas, as it should be. But why would you pick the wrong date for the nation as a whole?
ReplyWe were the last state to end slavery!?!? 🥺
ReplyStop heating up fishing in the microwave Kevin 🙄😂
ReplyThank you. I needed that.
Replyearly to a Trevor Noah video??? SHOOOOTTTT JUNETEENTH IS MY DAYYYYYYY HAPPY JUNETEENTH YALL
ReplyJust like independence day, juneteenth should become a national holiday. It is after all a day of Independence and liberty for African American.
ReplyWell done Dulcé and very informative, txs. Looking forward for more
ReplyI agree. It totally should be a national holiday. If this country wasn’t, well, ya know, still racist.
ReplyPeople like Trevor Noah wil never have a sensible guy like Coleman Hughes on his show.
ReplyQue Dulcé 🙂
ReplyI’ll be honest I didn’t know about it until I moved to Memphis.
ReplyMy own people dissin’ my state. 😞
ReplyI like her humor, lol and it’s great to make this a National Holiday or a celebration thru-out the rest of the country. As for the time of true emancipation, yes it took time after the war to get things in order. After all, all bills and rights and even court orders take months, so I don’t get the point of this video. Btw I don’t need to celebrate it, I’m not African American, just like when they celebrate anything else. I don’t need to be a part of it but of course, I will recognize it. Then again if I find myself involved that great too! I’ve always been moved from this part of America’s history and yes it’s been a long road to freedom for the African American. I hope and pray you learn from history and the mistakes. After all, we are all human and we need unity to keep the peace and the pursuit of happiness. Now Let’s keep America great and continue success. There is much work to do. Don’t get in the way be part of the human race!
ReplyRemind me again why Independence Day gets to be a holiday but THE END OF SLAVERY isnt.
ReplyNeed to see more of Dulce! She’s phenomenal
ReplyI grew up btwn Chicago & Gary, IN, in an all white town in the 70s-80s. They didn’t teach us any of this. The only thing we were taught was when the war ended, w/ emphasis that the war wasn’t about slavery at all. On top of that, I took an Early American History class in college in NY state in the early 2000s, & still I heard nothing about Juneteenth. No systematic racism here 🙄.
ReplyWill you go back to South Africa and help stop the real and inhuman violence in your home country before spreading false narratives in the US?
ReplyI don’t even live in America and i know about juneteenth.
ReplyIm from San Antonio, TX. Juneteenth has always been a big deal here since I can remember. Glad the rest of America is now celebrating our freedom. Now… if we could juuust work together to create a new era BLACK WALLSTREET we’ll be alllriiight. No crabs in a bucket allowed ✊🏾
ReplyActually New Jersey was the last state to end slavery
ReplyThey should rename Fort Hood, Tx, to Fort Granger.
ReplyThank you for educating people. We didn’t learn much about US slavery at school in Bulgaria.
Replyyeah, I also think that Juneteenth should be a national holiday.
ReplyI want her as the history teacher for my kids school!
ReplyYeah, they never taught us about Juneteenth in school. In fact… school basically taught us that racism was a thing of the past. We need better education systems, and we need to do better about educating ourselves outside of school as well.
Replywhy,”teenth”? teens were slaves?
ReplyI’m not great at English, but “June 10th” would be “June tenth”,,,, I think
Love the information! I knew about Juneteenth but learned something new. I’m aslo not a fan of fireworks…I guess if you’re a kid, but as an adult, they’re just loud lights in the sky.
ReplyLord, I love this woman!
