I highly recommend his film “Fitzcarraldo” from 1982 and the dokumentary about making that movie “Burden of Dreams” I have been an fan of him since they fed this to me at film school.
ReplyThink Coppola had an hard time making Apocalypse Now, this is an close second.
“The only way I will speak French is if a gun is pointed at my junk. Or if a volcano is about to explode. Otherwise, no.”
ReplyWhen he was describing how his book wasn’t a direct recounting of events with the soldier, I thought his description was sort of the through line that relates many art forms to one another… or underpins them. Constructing something that isn’t accurate to *reality* to bring more clearly into focus some aspect(s) of reality that you want to call attention to. That can be done by stripping away, or adding to; focusing in detail or expanding the frame. Very cool.
ReplyDay drinking with Werner???
ReplyI love that he just never noticed that John Waters was gay.
ReplyAn impression camp ambush
ReplyPlot twist: French is his first language but he couldn’t take it
ReplyWow thanks Seth and crew. GREAT interview. I recall when Onado came out of the jungle.. 4:38 Yes.
ReplyKeekee reekee is way more accurate I’ve noticed this last year. You’re the best for making time for that question
ReplyKinda rude of Seth not to offer Werner a certain hard candy to take, if you ask me.
