The modern GOP is NOT, and has never been, the party of Lincoln. The LABEL might be the same, but since the political shift around the Civil Rights act, they have NOT been the party of Lincoln. That line is utter crap, and it ticks me off every time I hear it.

Mrs. McCain doesn’t like the party her GOP created. Sold your soul for votes and invited the racist mentally disturbed to the GOP. You made your bed.

Newt Gin-Grinch was the Trump of 1992. No different, just a different position. The GOP has been broken for decades.

Have Republicans lost their way or just lost their cloak of decency?

The GOP was ‘far astray’ long before Trump arrived. They stonewalled Obama for 8 years.
They have had a policy of ‘no co-operation’ for a long time. Where were these ‘righteous’ Republicans then?

The GOP was never the party of inclusion or decency or debate, sorry, no. Not in my lifetime. That said, Cindy McCain is a great woman and wonderful interview.

The Republican party has lost it’s way. Gone are the good ole days when doing the bidding of their corporate overlords was enough.

Re painkillers: Yes to stopping after or before taking 1, cuz way too often people feel they can afford freedom of movement the pain was constraining, transgressing those natural boundaries so making the problem worse. That in itself calls for more painkilling. There must be a better way

The Democrats have also lost their way. They are beholden to the radical left. Socialists like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar dominate them. Soon, the USA will be under a socialist regime passing the cost onto hard-working middle class taxpayers. Omar fled Somalia because she didn’t want to make her homeland better. Instead she gets refugee status, elected to Congress and wants to change the USA to suit her. Why didn’t she try to do that in Somalia? People like Andrew Cuomo getting paid 5.1 million to write a book about the pandemic while NYers suffered. And Democrats believe that murdering a viable unborn child is a right. The Democrats are no better. The party of pandering and lawlessness.

McCain chose Sarah Palin as his running mate. He was lightyears ahead of his peers in giving legitimacy to idiots in the GOP.

Come on! The Republican Party lost its way while Cindy McCain was still a _teenager._ The Republican Party lost its way when they adopted their “Southern strategy” of deliberately wooing white racists (for political advantage, of course; Republicans care about nothing other than that) _a half-century ago._

And that worked so well that they’ve used it ever since. The core value of the Republican Party is either racism or just… being willing to do anything – _anything_ – for political advantage. Take your pick.

So these Republicans whining about Trump _now_ are a bit late, don’t you think? Where have they been for the past 50 years? They _built_ this Republican Party. The modern GOP is this crazy because this is the result of deliberately wooing white racists for 50 years. Yeah, it turns out that racists – and religious nuts – have _other_ bad qualities, too! Surprise, surprise, huh?

I’m just a few years older than McCain, so I know she’s aware of this. I’m just not so sure she _cares._

She *seems* nice but she also sounds completely misinformed and uninformed about the actual history of ‘her party’.
I can’t tell if she’s being purposefully ignorant and obtuse about the truth of the GOP or if she’s just that naive and gullible about the GOP. Intentionally stupid or does she never take the rose-coloured sunglasses off?
    I can’t tell.

I mean no disrespect at all, but the Republican Party hasn’t been the party of Lincoln in many, many decades. Republicans back during Lincoln share little resemblance to 20th and 21st C Republicans.
