Was I the only one expecting him to show the clip of John Stossel getting smacked by David Schultz?

How did John Oliver die?! Blood clot went to his brain after lifting a large rock reading “The grass is greener under my wiener” onto and then off of his desk. … He died as he lived, doing what he loved.

This isn’t Coronavirus Part 73?? Are we certain that this is the correct show? Also, I will never be able to look at the d in FedEx the same way again.

Way to go John, you made a video about why we need to save the post office with literally no recommendation about how to save it. Just like every episode of this show for the past three years, trump bad

I bought a sheet. I dont know if it would do much, but at least I’ll be the proud owner of a stamp that reads “and now, a stamp”.

This is exactly why America is a business, not a country. The government’s neoliberal policy pump billions into huge companies who pollute the earth and don’t even think about saving public services

Honestly I don’t have a problem with USPS, but I think it should turn a profit like any service or be made up by another one. Because god fucking god we really need to pull back on the amount of debt we are stacking up. Now undoing or reworking that law which fucked it over, should get done. Since if it could even get back to 1/8 of it previous income, that would be fantastic.

My favourite and main hobby I’ve been into in the last 4 or so years has been writing penpals letters, and collecting postcards and stamps. It breaks my heart that someone could find this service unnecessary.

The US made a trade deal with China. The US Government foots 50% of the shipping cost, the Chinese government foots the other 50% of the shipping bill. This explains why you can buy something for .99 cents from china with free shipping. If you try to shipping an item, like a T-Shirt, from China, lets say while on vacation, to the USA it will cost you about $80. The prepayment of retirement was probably designed to hide this hidden deal with China. Basically the US post office made China rich.

You know, after having smoked a Noel I realized something. Living in a city my life may not entirely be impacted by the loss of the USPS (indirectly in some areas sure, but not entirely). Someone else who lives in a more rural or take forever to get to may be a lot more dependent on it than I would. So now say you have a president running who can make a decision to end the USPS. I probably would dismiss that conversation as something trivial (as my life isn’t directly dependent on it) while someone else will view it as a live or die kind of topic. So some people’s support for someone can be over something that can be absolutely trivial, unheard of, or just effects them a certain way, to another person.

Stossel is a Libertarian shill. He twists all his storied to support “every man for himself” government. Why these idiots want to live in the old west is beyond me.

There is one other thing to be wary of. I can’t remember where I read this. But the U.S. government now gets about 1/7th of its revenue from sources besides taxes. any part of the government that doesn’t rely on tax revenue, the President can pretty much do with as they see fit. Allowing the USPS to raise more money is a good idea. But we also need to pass laws saying that all money raised from sources besides taxes gets put back into the treasury, so that Congress can maintain control over it. Historically, when chief executives didn’t need legislatures to raise money, they simply ruled.

its true that the USPS is the only option for people living in rural areas without broadband internet to send and receive messages. But that is because they have a legal monopoly on letters. They have had that monopoly since 1696. Its true that private companies sub-contract out the last-mile of delivery to the postal service sometimes. But the postal service sometimes contracts that last mile out to private companies. So saying that the postal service is essential to rural communities is misleading because, I would argue, that is mostly because of the legal monopoly. I am not saying that giving them more federal funding is a bad idea. They help collect taxes. So the government can easily get its money back. I am just saying that its disingenuous to argue that we need to give them more money for the sake of rural Americans. We could help rural Americans get their messages by abolishing the monopoly on letters. It would cost nothing, and America is the only country that has any such law. Also, if wikipedia is right, then the USPS was losing money for decades before the 2006 postal act. In which case you can’t put all the blame on that piece of legislation. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Postal_Service#Universal_service_obligation_and_monopoly_status https://fee.org/articles/an-expert-explains-the-postal-monopoly/
