Donald Trump is waging a trade war that hurts a lot of American workers. Maybe he would understand that if our heavy-handed documentaries about the global trading system were more informative.

That montage of everyday goods made in China should have include Trump products since none of them are made in the U.S.

“…over the last number of years.”

Um, Trumpy? I’m pretty sure you were supposed to replace “number of” with an actual number.

John talked about it in this video, but I want to add 1 thing about automation he left out. Even if the U.S. under President Trump found a way to bring every single job that had been outsourced since 2000 back, a majority of them will be replaced with machines by 2040. Automation and outsourcing as a whole are an unintended consequence that disproves the defense of capitalism; in a capitalist society, the ultimate goal is to make the most profit with the least amount of costs, so if corporations and businesses can have to option to pay as few employees as possible and make more profit, they will always do so.

China is definitely not a communist country. It’s an authoritarian bureacratic capitalist country that claims to be a socialist one.

The whole idea of trade is not a “zero sum game” but rather an “everybody benefits” scenario. Anyone who took a high school economics course is familiar with this example: Say there is a country that specializes in making a food item (let’s just say butter) while another specializes in making an appliance (let’s say a toaster). Both countries make both products, but the reason why they would trade the product they specialize in is to gain more of the one they don’t, which benefits both country’s economies in the long-run. If they both had this mentality of a “zero sum game” then neither country would be willing to trade their item and just expect the other country to give them the other product for no reason. This is essentially something Prsident Trump never considered or understood about basic economics (in addition to things like retaliatory tariffs), and it still amazes me when people argue that he is a good businessman or understands the economy, despite the fact he went bankrupt 6 times.

Anyone else expect Crystal Kaswell’s book “Dangerous Rock: A Dangerous Noise Novel” will become #1 on Amazon by tomorrow evening now that John advertised it for her?

oh my god, please somebody stop this nightmare merry-go-round. The damage is too great, we have literally allowed somebody to single handedly dismantle relationships built up over decades and generations. this isn’t the america i grew up with.
