I get the idea that monstraous stuff happend in the name of the monarcy, that should have been adressed. But this idea that Queen Elisabeth was partly responsibal for simply being alive, makes no sense to me. If she had been a leader that directly ordered the crimes in kenya. Sure! But she is not.. She is an english respresentative.. and she didn’t choose to become queen. She was born into that gig. And she did her best, while being a witness to the british politics. According to Stephen Fry, she was exited to sign under gay marriage laws, saying she never imagined it would happend in her life time. She saw here role as being non-divisive, and someone anyone could get behind, and felt her silence was a part of that. I respect that! The fact that anyone could shout “lizzie is in a box”, and feel proud of disrespecting her, is beyond me. I would have been fine about them saying they didn’t like the monarcy, or british politics. But celebrating Elisabeth’s death seems so uneccessary personal. We celebrate hitler, stalin og mussolinis death. That seems fair. But Elisabeth that just shook hands of every leader in the world, and gave speeches to her people about union and the spirit of the british people. Seems to me unfair to be targeted for this form of cruelty. That poor woman had a heartbreaking life, and somehow still managed to keep her grace. When someone celebrates her death because of her crown, they ignore the fact that she was not only a symbol for britain. But also a human being.. A nation with zero crimes under it’s belt does not exist.. Its part of mankinds evolution. And Elisabeth is not responsibal for the monarcys past, which has also been evolving. Infact her own father participated in leaving India. Took part of that celebration with the indian population. That would have been unheard of before. The world seems to be heading the right direction, evolving and learning. And maybe the monarcy isn’t the future of england. But holding them against the fire based of their directly ruling ancestry is unfair, and unconstructive. I might aswell claim Elisabeth was responsibal for brexit. The monarcy works as long as the people feel the royals function as a proud representive of their nation. The moment they do not, or loose it’s public support, is when the time has come to change it..

I was already angry at Charles for his endless promotion of dangerous pseudoscience, but damn, I did not realize how awful and deep it all went, and how _recent_ the ongoing colonialist damage is. I can never get over how balanced and deep the coverage on this show goes.

14:10 Why not? When these people inherit their ancestors’ assets, should they inherit their ancestors’ liabilities too?

What John conveniently decided to leave out is that the decolonization of the British Empire happened under the reign of Queen Elizabeth. The British colonies in Africa, Asia, Carribean, and the Pacific gained their independence under her reign.

I will mention that he should have mentioned the crown estates when talking about the economy of removing the monarchy.
Not because it is insurmountable, but because it is a subject that needs to be taken under consideration.
Personally i dont care either way and they arent the heads of state of my country… Which makes me happy when i hear about Kenya.

I am an Indian and this episode braught tears to my eyes thinking of what the Brits did to my country. I know this show is supposed to be funny, but he was absolutely on point. Though he missed much of the Indian story.
