Doing Pantsula, for the ones who don’t know, you can Google TKZee, Chiskop, Mandoza, Arthur and 999 stable, Skeem, Boom Shaka, or Kwaito music genre to cover all the pantsulas of yesteryear. Those were the good all days.
ReplyWhen my brother went to varsity (his 20yrs older than me) his fees were R267 all inclusive and my dad couldn’t afford it, and that was 1985 and now it’s R35 000 a year in 2020 without accommodation, I’m from South Africa 🇿🇦, I’m 36yrs now, by the way.
ReplyHere is a supportive you tube comment. Great Show Bro.
ReplyHadda google pantsula. It’s actually pretty dope. Thanks for the South African history lesson, Trevor!
ReplyAny Senator objecting to $15/hr should be forced to live off their state’s minimum wage for a month.
ReplyThe parliamentarian’s opinion is non-binding. Dems could have tried to push it through, but it might have slowed down COVID relief that’s desperately needed. I like Bernie’s carrot and stick model: punish the biggest abusers (Walmart) by taking away tax breaks and rewarding small businesses that do right.
ReplyThe minimum wage must go up to $15. Jobs will be lost because people wouldn’t have to work two or even three jobs at bottom of the barrel wages. Losing those jobs are ok. Some places are suggesting Mom and Pop stores shouldn’t have to pay them and I agree if their number of employees are very small.
The Daily Show should have went over how since the 80s the US Economy has grown vastly as workers became more and more productive due to advances in technology. How GDP of America is now $17 Trillion dollars last I checked, so where did all this increase in value go? Guess what else grew at a rapid pace since the 80s? The number of Billionaires!
Reagan’s tax cuts were historic as it eliminated the highest marginal tax brackets for the ultra wealthy. Coupled with the assault on unions, which created the vibrant American middle class of the 50s-70s, the wealthy gained power as unions/workers lost it. Workers lost so much power that they are now in a very weak negotiating position. Thus workers had relatively little power to demand their fair share of all that Extra value they themselves created!
A $15 minimum wage in the absence of strong unions, would even the balance of power to a more fair level. And so workers can finally get some of the value they created.
ReplyThe parliamentarian has no power to block legislation. The parliamentarian is just an adviser. The democrats, even without any republican support, do have the power to raise minimum wage, they simply lack the desire. It’s just easier to blame the senate parliamentarian and hope it’s too confusing for most people to bother to understand 😔.
ReplyIf they’re worried about kids unnecessarily earning a living wage, then why don’t they just keep the $7-$10 range for people under 18? Once you’re 18, then you’re bumped to $15.

Reply$7.25 is nowhere near enough to live on. It’s pathetic. Deliver on what you promised, Dems.
ReplyThank you for sharing my friend I enjoy your videos
ReplySo close to first…
ReplyDems need to grow a pair and ram it thru like the Republicans did the past 4 years 🙄🙄🙄
ReplyHe needs to start signing executive orders
ReplyI can’t believe that he uses one of Vox’s videos to explain this segment :0
ReplyThe answer to the question of what the minimum wage should be is: “a full time job should be able to pay for an adult + child, allowing FULL health care, a higher education and healthy food as well as learning options (books etc.) and spare time activities. Adjustment should be made for a couple (in terms of an easing of tax to allow 2 adults to live on one full time job) .. and the state must support any additional child .. as it is in the states best interest to enable parents to have 2 children (which .. logically is the minimum to sustain a countries population)
A minimum wage must be adjusted for inflation .. YEARLY – and must be adjusted for the regional cost of living.

Shout out to the “pansula” reference 🤣🤣
ReplyIt’s crazy that people can be bombed without congressional approval. But having a minimum wage that is actually reasonable is too difficult to accomplish. The world can be disappointing.
