I always feel so awful for the injury, displacement, and loss of life among pet and stray animals during natural disasters like hurricanes and tropical storms, so it really is heartwarming to see celebrities using their influence to help this underappreciated aspect of disaster relief.

I was hoping for a Portuguese, so I could say “… was the wettest dog we’ve yet seen.. in terms of water dogs.”

Some random person baby-talking to me, saying, “who’s tripping balls?” reminds me of the last phish show I went to.

Yay another video of dogs that are DEFINITELY all adopted already! But that aside this is precious. My dog might sucker punch me when she jumps on her hind legs to play with me, but those dogs are probably going to be more precious. Because my dog is racist, sexist, and agist. Which is kinda sad since we only taught her how to hate old people. ?

The director of Spotlight isn’t a dog named Owen, he’s a human man named Tom McCarthy.

For pups sake, please do an elder-dog segment! Older pets really need new homes.

    Race Is Not The Place,
an Op-Ed by Simón Eduardo Manso

You can’t rest in peace. You can’t turn your back. You can’t drive or be in your own home, while black. You can’t live in your country, your state, or your community, without looking over your shoulder. There is always some evil overseer attempting to direct and control your life, and your destiny. The same evil presence puts you at the back of the class, tells you that you are born dumb, and slyly convinces you to drop all your defenses, and give into your masters, like obedient little children. And, the penalty for disobedience, is death or incarceration. The sentence for being black in America, is a lifetime of fear.

They want you to be afraid. They want you to feel insecure, deaf, dumb and blind. They don’t want the black hand to know what the white hand is doing. They want to keep you confined. They want you to feel lost, vulnerable, and alone, and to live under an oppressive, omnipresent force of evil. Even if you can’t see it, you can still feel it, pushing you back into the gutter, making you feel, as if that is where you belong. They carved out a nice little stereotype, and they absolutely want us to fill it.

A few hundred black bodies stacked and racked, abused, bruised and bloody, sick, starving, and emaciated. Those too weak, are eventually tossed overboard like garbage. The women have the privilege of being raped at will. The men, kept in leg irons, forced for months to live in unbearable conditions. Millions of innocent black souls were lost to the deep; forever forgotten by the evil white overseers who had no qualms with committing crimes against humanity, time and time again.

For America, the injury starts hundreds of years back, and the insult is burnt into our collective memory. For generations, Africans were wronged, displaced, stolen, and sold into a lifetime of slavery. How many black people lost their lives, their hope, and were so cruelly deprived of their humanity? Think of what it was like on those slave ships for the young. Imagine being a adolescent black boy, or a fragile young girl. The fear for an adult, is unimaginable enough. Try multiplying that fear by a thousand, even a million times; still, it would probably never be enough to know how those children truly felt. These youth were so innocent, they had no idea, what awaited their arrival; it would eventually take years for those children to understand that they’ve been sold into eternal doom.

Today, the willfully ignorant remain dumb and numb, but everybody else, can finally feel the tide of history turning. Racism is the last bastion of the ignorant; the last dense rock for the crustaceans to hide. Racism is the home ground for the decrepit; it is their safe space, and they will defend their ‘white supremacy’ with their lives, literally, come hell or high-water, even if they are the first to burn, and the first to drown.

Divide and conquer is the strategy on which bigotry thrives. If you divide humanity, you can conquer it. If you divide a family, they are done. If you divide anything, it breaks into pieces, and it begins to disintegrate. Of course, there is method in this madness. They have kept black and brown people down. They have destroyed our ego, and our self-esteem. They have brainwashed us all with hundreds of years of film and propaganda. They killed the black people first, in all the popular films. They made us feel expendable. No matter what happens, the white guy always saves the day and gets the girl. You see that story play out enough times, on screen and in real life, and it really does put you into a deep hole of resignation.

American Hero mythology has elevated one tribe at the expense of all the others. This is not a coincidence. This is a strategy used by the insecure to conquer the strong, and make them feel powerless and weak. It’s a psychological operation, designed to inflate their ego, and deflate ours (another zero-sum game, that could easily be a win-win.) The hero doesn’t look like you. The princess doesn’t look familiar. Even the mythology, stems from European ideals. When one culture is elevated, and the others ignored, this is a strategy specifically designed to make you lose hope. When you live in this state, for long enough, there is little chance you will fight back; you learn to love your captors. Black and brown people have suffered from Stockholm Syndrome for long enough in America. They took our brown Jesus, and gave us a white, blue-eyed one; they shamelessly stole our connection to our own real messiah, and replaced him with a fictional one. Jesus, probably looked a lot like Colin Kaepernick. Just sayin’.

The old saying goes, “It’s about the journey, not the destination.” But, how can you begin a journey
if you don’t know which direction to head? At first, you may not be sure, how you’re going to get to your destination, but it doesn’t really matter, as long as you’re on the right side of history, and you are determined to blaze a path through new, uncharted territory.

Science has only recently discovered, that we all have a common ancestors. Women have a common birth mother, and men a common birth father, called ‘Mitochondrial Adam & Eve’ <https://www.livescience.com/38613-genetic-adam-and-eve-uncovered.html> Thus, we all share the same familial lineage. We all came from Africa. We are all ‘black people’ underneath our skin. The irony, is that we somehow forgot that we are a huge family, displaced by time and geography. In our dislocation, as a family, we have polarized. We have aligned ourselves at opposite ends of the rope, and we are playing tug of war, with our future. If we want to follow a true path of progress, we need to get on the the same page, and start pulling together in the right direction.

Race has been scientifically dis-proven <https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/race-is-a-social-construct-scientists-argue/>. But, tribalism will hold firm, and may always be endemic to humanity. What we see as race, is really just our tribal impulses, to align with our most familiar family members, and of course, these people ‘look like us.’ This is natural. There is nothing wrong with identify with your immediate family. We are all born ignorant. But, once you become educated and learn, the true history of humanity, you realize, almost instantly, how stupid and backwards racism truly is. Prejudice and discrimination, are the products of historical ignorance. We must shine a harsh unforgiving light on this ancient nescience. We must illuminate the truth, in order to banish the same old mythology that has always haunted us. If you didn’t already known, let me state it simply for you:

    “Race does not exist.”

But, if race does not exist…then why have we created it? This isn’t so obvious, at first. But, over time, you realize, that in a sad way, racism is the product of resource limitations. There is only so much to go around, there is only so much wealth, only so much food, only so much land. If you divide this equally among ALL humans, then obviously, you sacrifice your personal spoils for the greater good. Racism is essentially, the opposite of sacrifice. Racism is based on greed. Discrimination rears its ugly head, when one group of people wants to cast out another. When you live under the umbrella of greed, no matter how much you have, it’s never enough. Bigots always wants MOAR.

If you are greedy, and you want everything for yourself, then you will invent a reason to justify your gluttony. Consciously, or subconsciously, this is what feudal European culture created, and that is where the seeds of American racism were sown. In the process of European expansion, they invented a mythology that denigrated and subverted the status of everyone that didn’t look like them. If you didn’t wear a suit and tie in the tropics, suddenly you became ‘savage.’

According to European courts, the bounty of Africa was rightfully theirs, and feudal society made it easy to see the world as their inheritance. Once you invent your motivation, and you create your excuse, then you can truly believe in your own ‘superiority’; this is a type of cultural narcissism. In essence, the lords of Europe became victims of their own hype, and Africans had to learn how to survive centuries of abuse, if they wanted to live.

Europeans, invented the mythology of ethnic superiority, as a crutch, so they could treat people like
animals. If you steal someone’s humanity, then you create a moral void, that allows you to treat your brothers and sisters like beasts. Indeed, this has happened many times, in many places around the world. But, Europeans and Americans took that nascent greed, and evil ideology to the extreme. Is it any surprise, that to this day, Europeans and Americans still have the highest standards of living? Well, it certainly does wonders to get a 500 year head start, with more than a little help from slave labor.

Although, not immediately obvious, racism victimizes it’s own congregation. Besides the false ideal of genetic purity (can you say Habsburgs? <https://owlcation.com/humanities/The-Habsburg-Jaw-And-Other-Royal-Inbreeding-Deformities-and-Disorders>.) Besides the inherent dangers in the false beliefs of aristocracy, our culture collectively suffers when we dismiss the contributions of what is now, a majority of the world. If you believe you are genetically superior, then you dismiss a lot of great ideas, or rephrase them, and take a credit for another persons work, passing their genius on, as your own.
