I would like to point out that breaking up bell Atlantic into Verizon and AT&T caused alot of business to collapse because the now smaller telecom fragments couldn’t keep up the demand and the companies that supplied bell Atlantic where unnecessary for
It’s lke, yeah, we have a narrow window of opportunity! But, no call to action and no proposed way forward?? Seems to be missing some rather important components. How do we mobilize against Schumer’s conflicts of interest?
Yes the monopolies are bad, there should be competition or at least higher requirements for companies that are bigger.
For example I’d prefer a system that increases taxes the more profit a company makes but also increases the taxes if there is a huge inequality between wages of the board members and the people doing the actual work and then give those companies tax breaks for increasing wages to workers, or being green or investing in community projects that improve the community.
The larger a company is the higher the requirements we should be able to give it, ask Tesla to donate some of it’s money(or supply cars to firefighters) fighting wildfires in California or task Amazon with funding recycling sites all over the country even at a loss to the company, task alphabet with funding for education or let them supply schools with laptops and education books licences or whatever.
I don’t know how well this would work but just maybe we can offload some of the governments tasks to the largest companies and the government can just stick to oversight and inspections.
