Stephen Drops An AFT That Explains The NFT Craze

Published on November 23, 2021

Confused about Non-Fungible Tokens? That might be because everyone who tries to define them does a terrible job. Luckily, Stephen Colbert is here to help with an AFT (an Actual F****** Thing) that perfectly explains how NFTs work. For a limited time, Stephen’s AFT is up for auction at with proceeds going to benefit DonorsChoose! #Colbert #Comedy #NFT

I’d like something tangible for my money: tattoo space on celebrities would be better value then NFT’s (unless you bought tattoo space on Kevin Spacey)

It’s a humor show, of course, but it’s funny how every revolutionary technology is always criticized, specially by the older demographics, even when it’s clear it’s here to stay (watch an old interview of Letterman to Bill Gates, about the Internet). Blockchain and the solution for the “double spending” problem is probably the most revolutionary innovation in computer systems since the Internet and clearly has the potential to be even more disruptive than the Internet. It’s about 13 years old and most people don’t even realize what is being developed and how it will impact the future.

You left out the part from your explainer where NFTs destroy the planet burning fuel with every transaction.

Apply the same technology to other things that “exist” like house deeds and contracts instead of just art. Does any of my music that I produced actually exist? All of it is digital. Wow now I am re-contemplating my entire existence again. Damn.

Important to note that with NFT’s you don’t own the digital asset you just own the link to it and the link to the website can be fragile meaning that if the server goes down for whatever reason then you will lose that digital asset forever. Also these are more reasons why this is a stupid fucking idea. The ‘art’ they try to push is the worst thing you can ever see in you lifetime. I would rather watch a house I built with my bare hands go up in flames than look at an NFT. The ones that look nice are most likely stolen from real talented artists that have said that they hate NFT’S. Someone on Twitter posted their whole ordeal that some douchbags stole his entire character gallery and made a NFT game without him knowing. Last thing is that they are straight up bad for the environment. They try to make the argument “OH YOUR USING TWITTER WHICH HAD THE SAME CARBON FOOTPRINT AS AN NFT! AND A LOT OF CRYPTBROS ARE USING SOLAR FARMS SO YOUR ARGUMENT IS INVALID!” They fail to understand that charging your phone generates 2 to 6 watts and far less if the charger is still plugged in making the whole thing cost less than a dollar a year. Meanwhile an NFT uses 48.14 kilowatts of energy per hour and transaction meaning it uses as much electricity as the average household for a day and a half. So thousands of sweaty greaseballs make the worst shit you’ve ever seen or steal some of the best art every hour of everyday and add God knows how much of a carbon footprint to the world. If you see someone trying to push NFT’S it’s 100% okay to call them a loser.

So the dude that paid $600,000 for Nyan Cat didn’t know that someone could just send him a link to the .gif?
Cos I can get the .gif. Side note, totally unrelated, anyone looking for the .gif I got you for the low – less than $50,000 👀
    Ps. Don’t google it ✊🏾😐
