Oh! We have a racism problem in policing that is unique to policing. If it was strictly a reflection of from society, every aspect of society would be equally violent and racist. Some police forces are better than others. The problem is how police are trained. Many are trained to protect and serve white citizens and wealthy citizens. They are trained to be excessively strict with African-Americans and other people of color. They are trained protect racist co-workers and warned that they will be punished and ostracized for speaking out against racist, bullies, and/or murderers. It’s not an accident that they practice on black targets. Still I’m hopeful. Police should have racial training that tests that weed out people who are too biased or fearful to protect and serve everyone equally.

I think we need to start with gun laws. If police know that guns are not out there, they will police differently. And of course, there needs to be a whole new way of training police and police unions needs to be in check. I don’t even understand how taxing entities can have the power to unionize? Taxpayers fund police, firefighters, educators, etc. Their unions needs to have more controls. Bad teachers are also a big problem and difficult to get rid of because of the way unions have negotiated.

When it comes to police its really simple….blue blood. The most powerful enforcers of race discrimination are middle class “white” people. You have a class of people that have pride in the tasks they carry out and encourage their children to follow in their path while instilling their beliefs. how many cops that are active now can follow their “blue blood” heritage to before Jim Crow laws were abolished? Systemic Racism. If that weren’t bad enough add in a lack of education and an inflated ego.

Great talk. I’ve put simply in a black community You’ll get a parking ticket at 3am in the morning by a meter maid but I’ve never heard of them seeing and reporting a stolen vehicle. Begs me to question who are they protecting and serving. The cops NYC took the decals to protect and serve off of their patrol cars. We should have known then they don’t want to be held accountable for doing either.

Police unions need to purchase malpractice insurance which can cover when they kill someone to pay the affected families vs, taxpayer dollars. Disband qualified immunity. Reallocate some funds towards social service programs.

Firefighters don’t leave their station until their services are called upon. They don’t patrol the streets looking for problems that haven’t happened yet. Why can’t police adopt this same policy?

Not as bad as it used to be, says the white man. How much microaggreion has he endured in the last 10 years? None I assume, while color people get it everyday.

Let’s start by not hiring the same low education, low IQ, generally antisocial, generally racist individuals. You can be a high school dropout, but you can get a job as a “blue gang member” and carry a gun?! Not a good start to “ community based serving and protecting”.

Ah wisdom. Its so nice to hear. Thank you Trevor for interviewing him! I’m going to add to that by saying I believe we need a peace force, not a police force. One that leads with compassion and prioritizes safety for everyone. Force should be a last resort. Neuroscience and psychology shows that negative reinforcement doesn’t work. So the peace force should focus on figuring out how we can inspire positive behavior in everyone.

Change the racial wealth gap and you have less poverty crime. If the justice SYSTEM is “for profit” policing is also “for profit”. Everyone is pretending they dont know the solution.

I read the transcript (learned that one from Klepper). It’s worse than I thought, and we need to pay attention to this one, as it PERVADES police culture. https://www.wilmingtonnc.gov/home/showdocument?id=12012

I think the body cams and inside cruiser cams should be monitored and recorded daily…like daycare cams….heck we’ve got cameras in office…they should be watched…everything they do…every word they say…every website they visit while on the job….total big brother…if always watched ….they will either freaking quit or straighten the heck up…

This guy right off the bat suffers from his whiteness lmao. It’s not that bad for who, there killing us in the street live on camera like a got dam reality show. The only question now is what do you do with the criminals once you get them off the force. Obviously, you can’t just unleash them in society with no restraints. If they have no problem doing what there doing as cops wtf you think they’ll do when they’re no longer cops. This can literally start a civil war if you unleash thousands of these racist criminals on the civilian population. Plus you can’t discount the fact that most of them are now trained killers and have the knowledge of how police work. In my opinion, this is going to lead to something catastrophic.

It just seems like if police are trained for worst case scenarios which inevitably involves a gun and their life being lost then to fix this issue the possibility of a gun being present has to be removed

Policing in US is very difficult because everyone is carrying arms…by nature even with your training ,you will be very tense and jumpy. They should follow other countries where the police always patrol in group of 2-3 personal depending on the area (severity of crimes)

Lawyers require a minimum of 6 years of education to practice law, why do police only require 3 – 6 months of training to enforce the law. Increase the standard of required education and experience. Change the “us versus them” culture in policing. And for god sake end these overpowered, over-reaching police unions.
