ReplyI’m in favor of legalizing marijuana, but I am not in favor of expunging the records of those convicted of trafficking marijuana illegally, and here’s why: The rest of us followed the law and did not traffick in marijuana, even though, we knew it could be lucrative. So, those who did so illegally were breaking the law and cheating for profit. That is a reflection of their CHARACTER and demonstrates CORRUPTION and a WILLINGNESS TO BREAK THE LAW FOR PROFIT. We should never reward that behavior by normalizing it and pretending that it wasn’t unacceptable.

ReplyIs there really even such a thing as a gateway drug? People don’t become addicted because a drug on its own is just that big of a draw… it’s because they’re also trying to escape things like a history of trauma, mental illness, poverty, etc, to soothe their emotional pain with something which makes them feel good at least temporarily. People from dysfunctional backgrounds aren’t known for having the healthiest of coping mechanisms.
If you want to reduce addiction, you need to reduce poverty, improve education, improve healthcare (and provide robust mental healthcare), and facilitate opportunities for people to advance in society.
