they really think they’re too smart for us to catch the white supremacist dogwhistles (birth of a nation), and too above repercussions to worry if we do. gross >:(

We really need better education about the horrendous white supremacy embedded into the founding of the US.

Trevor! You missed a great shot! Instead of, “We took their sacred ground to build a few Pizza Huts.” you could have said, “we took their sacred ground to carve white people out of it.” and shown Mt. Rushmore, or it’s real name, Six Grandfathers by Lakota native, Nicolas Black Elk.

I met him when he thought he was running for PREZ. He did not do well, and I nailed him on marijuana laws, and he started stuttering. It was great.

He really just going to breeze by the fact he stated for religious freedom yet native Americans were killed for practicing their own religion on their land that was being taken from them….

ah… ha.. I guess neither he nor his ‘exceptional’ camp remember that the ‘rule by the people’ consitution and government of the US was in no small part copied from the Iroquois Confederacy. The ‘founding fathers’ did not come up with that stuff on their own, they noticed first nations that had a form of government they liked better, and that became ‘american culture’.

Lol how he spoke is how most of the white people in this land think. Sadly one of the arguments I hear is that the “Native Indians” weren’t doing anything with the land… so they took over the land, started destroying it, and now look at the weather that can destroy your buildings, then digging into the earth and taking important resources from underneath us, and the waters pumped full of pollution and chemical waste.

Did he think Native Americans were just randomly sitting there waiting for white ppl to show up and tell them what to do?

As someone who lives with all of the modern “conveniences”, it is incredibly ignorant to look at any culture past or present and say they had “nothing”, or “not much”. Although they may have to work harder to get things we take for granted like food, water, shelter etc… Just because they work harder dosen’t mean they aren’t happy. Also there are all the stresses and issues they don’t have as Trevor mentioned.

It’s sad but it’s true. America culture has nothing to do with Native Americans but that’s because they were pushed out. I believe there is so much about spirituality and nature that could be learned from native americans but USA doesn’t want anything to do with being self aware it rather put on a mask of materialism and consumism and pretend everything is alright even thou it’s burning in front of our own eyes. Being conscience will make us great.

As someone this is native american of CA, I can tell you that that is just not true.

He uses, “We birthed a Nation”…to conjure the ethos of “Birth of a Nation”, then added how it was done for freedom of religion, totally ignoring that others/natives/enslaved Africans, were not allowed freedom of religion. (this is one racist trade of epic proportions) sad actually. is this what Jesus teaches him/them?.

THe USA owes the structure of their representational democracy to Native American culture, specifically the Iroquois Confederacy which was made up of multi-state government with each state (tribe) governing itself while uniting for mutual defense. The framers cited the Iroquois Confederacy and other Native AMerican government as the inspiration for federalism. Of course leave it up to soon to be “Florida Man” to be clueless and racist. And as far as his claim of “freedom of religion” the USA only granted that freedom to Native People in 1978!!!!That is literally yesterday that Native People were ALLOWED by the US govt to practice their faith.

Yes American indigenous people are that “something else” part of the demographic pie. But most of us know it’s not limited to one specific group. It’s a sweeping term to pigeonhole all native people into one narrow idea or concept. A concept the American government would like to be “something else.”

One of the biggest misrepresentations of the history of colonial America is that it was founded by people who ‘sought religious freedom.’
The puritans were persecuted in England at the time.
    The reason they were persecuted?
It was their belief that Catholics should be eradicated.
At the time the king (James I) wanted to reconcile protestants and Catholics after so many years of unnecessary persecution and bloodshed. The puritans were seen as agitators and peace-breakers because they wanted Catholics to be persecuted a lot more.

You may recognize that this puritan hypocrisy continues to this day when certain evangelical christians think they are the ones being oppressed because they can’t discriminate against other people. Their version of religious ‘freedom’ is ‘freedom to discriminate against people not of their religion.’
