Sadly, most Americans today choose the lowest common denominator.
They relish in ignorance allowing the stupid level overall to reach epic

Love the guy. This country’s an experiment in democracy. And, in that it
may resemble a democracy to anyone other than those who exploit its people,
it’s failed miserably, so far. This “representative democracy” thing was a
fraud from day one. Only pure (or “direct”) democracy can this country ever
live up to its stated principles.

Here’s the thing: Republicans vs Democrats is a system that’s been in play
for a long while now — not the country’s entire span, but a long while —
It served us well through both world wars, but after WWII things started to
progress and some people want to stop the progression. Some people want to
    see it go forward.

The people who want it to stop, want to see it revert back to the 1950’s
and keep it there for all eternity. They want the world to be in their
hands, and nobody else’s. They do this through misinformation and fear
    mongering.

When you have a large group of people who believe what a small group of
people tell them, it feeds into hatred and fear which grinds the country to
a halt. People do not look at others as people; they look at others as
alien beings who are not allowed to be here.

If you are a Republican who can look at the world as it is, and consent
that yes there are some things that need to change then more power to you.
However, if you’re a Republican who believes that the POTUS should never be
in his office because of the things you heard on the news and never
bothered to research yourself then you should look at more news sources.
There is no better way to get yourself educated than to look at MULTIPLE
sources, from what you agree with and what you DON’T agree with.

If you hate Obama because he’s a Democrat, and no other reason, then
perhaps you should find a legitimate reason to hate him. One that is an
actual flaw. I will concur that the ACA is lackluster, but I believe that
it was a magnificent step in the right direction. I, however, do not
believe that his religion (which is Christian) is a valid reason to hate
him. We live in a country where people can believe in whatever higher power
they want to believe in. We live in a country where you are free to do
    basically whatever you want.

But if we choose Trump or Cruz for POTUS (neither of which will happen),
the country will come to a grinding halt and our infrastructure will
crumble. Our economy will collapse, worse than it did in 2008. Our rights
will be taken away. WWIII will start and we’ll all be dead. Every. Single.
    One of us.

Thucydides, author of The Peloponnesian War, recorded a speech from an
    Athenian leader with one of my favourite quotes: “Athenians do not hope;
Athenians calculate!”. Given that they were the inventors of democracy, and
given that they lost that war, I would say we modern democracies ought to
take heed. I like this guy’s way of putting it too. Hope is for losers.

With that last line (from both), this interview lost all credibility of
seriousness that Dreyfuss was trying to bestow (assuming he was).

Trying to mix seriousness of our civic and political system with a joke
about a particular candidate just doesn’t make him (Dreyfuss in this
instance) appear as he might know what he’s talking about.

I”m “defending” Trump *only* as an American — not his political views.

I lost all respect for Richard Dreyfuss he’s a full fledged idiot when it
comes to common sense on run in America because Donald Trump is a fascist
dictator he is just running for president so he is of the pay is fair share
in taxes and he couldn’t care less about the common people America. He’s
just a part of establishment just like the republicans and Hillary Clinton
because Hillary Clinton is a corporatist democrat just like Obama that is
making the Health Insurance Company ranch by making individuals to work
jobs to pay for Health Insurance or the get fined. Bernie Sanders is only
one they can save America and he knows a lot more than Richard Dreyfuss
does because he does a one to pay its fair share in taxes. He’s just a
typical actor just some phony fart that got rich off of people seeing his
movies and he can care less about the common people that pay to see his
    movies now because he’s wealthy.

Can’t any of you people even listen to the man before you bash him and what
your own country once stood for. Do any of you have any pride in the good
parts of your own history? Any at all? The fact is our freedom has corroded
since 9/11 but our country has become the greatest superpower the world has
ever known. The way we fix our problems is not to come here and bash this
old man and his ideals but to stand up against the men who have taken our
liberty from us and take it back from them.

Watching this, and reading the comments has actually made me depressed.
Jesus Christ on a cracker no wonder the fucking suicide rate’s been
spiking. “Hope is for losers?” Go suck a movie producers cunt you dick.
Hope is always there, and as long as it is there the potential for good
change is there. We still have power over the political process, and guess
what? Everything the president does has to go through congress. The
president hasn’t had any power since the days of Reagan, and Kennedy. You
know what the president is now? A mouth piece.

I’m going to keep living my life, and living as best i can while trying to
make other peoples lives better in small ways. That’s how i express my
hope. I certainly won’t be taking a jaded Hollywood monkey at his word when
he says “Hope is for losers.” that’s for fuckin’ sure. So yeah. Kinda hate
Richard Dreyfus, and his Russian wife now.
