Native of RI, this state has problem bigger than our pothole, from mafia to racial discrimination, even our firefighter are getting discriminated out the fire house, and last year ICE riding in a truck like child predators even ran over protest in front the detention center. Even though we’re small state we got a lot people with big heart. Since the start of June, we kept consistently had peaceful protest day by day even having 10k outside the State House. But we all should step up, see what’s trending in your town or city and make a difference we all have a voice. Don’t be afraid to speak up.

We can’t change history. We can learn from it. Thomas Jefferson kept slaves, does that mean we should irradicate the constitution?

Glad white people/even some white politicians (like the ones in Rhode Island) are at the very least taking a good hard look and doing self-reflection. Now open your purses directly and make change!

    Meaning of the word plantation:
    History/Historical.
    a colony or new settlement.
the establishment of a colony or new settlement

And RI was just that, a new settlement, everyone needs to dial down there hypersensitivity. Just as Many words have changed meaning through time.

This whole thing has really changed me. My friends have always been a bit of a rainbow (black, hispanic, laotian, japanese, puerto rican, kenyan, british, white) and I didn’t give colors much thought, they’re just people no different than I am, right? I knew some struggled at times with racism or bias, but didn’t realize that as a white person, there was more I could do than just not care what race or nationality they were. It’s so much more widespread than I realized, and as a white person, I’m exactly the one who NEEDS to be speaking out and shouting from rooftops and making sure others do too. It’s important to SEE their color and celebrate them and their journeys, and understand that journey. It’s important to join the fight for equality and justice and eliminating all these roadblocks in their way.
I realized that, as a woman, I have been marginalized, discounted, attacked, and underestimated more times than I’d like to remember. While our fears may be different, we both feel deeply about them. I get it now. It’s time the world changes so that ‘the talk’ my Mom had with me about my safety and the one their Mom’s had with them about theirs never need to happen anymore. All these things some white men in power do to suppress us (granted, not the same way-not equating the two) every day so that our power doesn’t become powerful need to be set aside. Equality needs to happen. No matter what color, gender, sex, or sexual identity you are, the world needs to treat you equally. It’s time. Let’s make that happen now. The murder needs to end. White supremacy and racism need to end. Homophobia and Transphobia need to end. Raping/attacking/disrespecting women needs to end. Let’s do this.
VOTE! We need more diversity in our governments. This needs to be the year that happens.

I just hope it isn’t called Rhode Island after the same Rhodes who colonized a whole African country and called it “Rhodesia” after himself 😨😡

As a Rhode Islander, I can say that most of us are not proud of our state’s official name’s history. While again, we were the first place to outlaw slavery in the United States, it does not excuse our name. But to be fair, we have tried changing it in the past.
Goodbye official longest state name medal 🙁

Well actually Trevor, the California seal is actually racist and was created by the confederates. The seal should be replaced with the black woman that California is named after. See for yourself: https://www.californiagreatseal.com
