When James asks Kaya Scodelario and Priyanka Chopra about the gossip around them being future Bond girls, the two begin to wonder what a female James Bond would look like, and what that would mean for men seeking parts traditionally held by women.

i’m really getting sick of this. James Bond is a guy! get the hell over it. It should remain a guy and trust me, there will always be women who want to be Bond Girls. I’m a black guy and I don’t even want to see a black male James Bond. It’s ok if the character stays a white dude.

Don’t be ridiculous. I’m as much for gender equality as anyone else, but literally changing the gender of a written character from a series of novels just to appease your own misled mindset is atrocious. There should 100% be more leading female roles in Hollywood as well as minority roles that are focused on something other than race. You know what the solution is? WRITE NEW FILMS. Stop going back and butchering old series for the sake of experimentation. James Bond is not a woman. He is a womanizer. And while that may be a negative characteristic that he possesses, it’s part of who his character is. He drinks martinis, drives fast cars, and sleeps with mysterious women. James Bond is a character who is firmly established and deeply rooted in audiences’ minds, and has been since the very first book was written. To propose radically flipping that on its head that is, at best, amusing, and at worst, absolutely ridiculous.

Imagine, for a second, if another iconic male protagonist had his gender switched by Hollywood execs. Imagine if a Back to the Future reboot was announced next year, except this time Marty McFly’s character was female. Hell, Doc Brown was female too, and George McFly was Georgia McFly. Biff Tannen was a young woman, and Einstein had puppies. Sure, MAYBE the writers could find some way to make it work, but… why? Why do we need to see it rebooted in this way? What does it really add? Why can’t we see new original stories with all these things instead of retrofitting the old franchises to fit this mold? I love Freaks and Geeks for example, but I would never want to see Lindsay Weir played by a guy. It just wouldn’t be the same.

Leave existing characters’ genders alone, please.
