My friend who was a policeman for 5 years said he left the force because of both the racist and abhorrent behavior of other police. When i pressed him to guess, he said about 50%. So… guess that means about the same % as the rest of the population. SaF.

The Vetting of police is insufficient. The procedures must be revisited to include social media; indepth psychological/psychiatric evaluation; credit reports; organization affiliation; military record review; prior/previous police employment history; domestic/racist violence. Without deep Vetting we are left with Bad Apples.

The cops cannot be seen to be fighting among themselves… They are a gang as well, as in you support your fellow cops no matter what, at least publicly. And there are some people that seem to believe it makes the invulnerable to any type of consequences of their actions… That liutenant is a prime example, the cops could have easily diffused the situation, but chose not to do so. And jusy arrest the man based on his complexion.

Am an ex-pat like you and I am as shocked about the thugs in uniform as you are. Systemic abuse is the rule. It just means that the judiciary-industrial-complex is broken. Reform is simple. Abolish the body of laws and rules taken from a British empire that is no more and replace with a modern swedish or swiss code of law – countries that address systemic legal abuse and systemic racism. The rotten tree analogy is correct.

I’m trying to understand when it turned into a felony stop. In one video, the cop gets out of the car and says “felony traffic stop” on the radio. There’s another video where he explains they got out guns drawn because they followed him for 4 miles with lights and sirens on. What’s the original reason for the stop?

On top of the racism. The other related problem is gun control. If the police are so afraid of people–why is that? Because we are armed with weapons more powerful than they have. And the NRA makes a show of supporting the police, but the police should be very in favor of gun control. The militarization of America, both the civilians and police, will continue to fuel a weapons first police strategy.

If they are bad apples why are police unions going above and beyond to protect the police men that they are calling “bad apples”? If they are bad apples then the police force is rotten.

This reminds me, when George Floyd died, my mom told me. I was twelve at the time. I cried and said “Mom, do you think if someone had tried to stop him from killing George Floyd, like another policeman or a passerby, like if they tackled the man who killed him, what would have happened?” And she told me “That person, if they weren’t a cop, probably would have been arrested and charged with many things, if not, they would have been killed instead.” And I said “What about if the person who stopped him was another officer?” And she said “I’m not sure, but they’d be in big trouble.”

And I think I’ll always remember that conversation.

I agree fully, Trevor. I have thought of it as a rotten tree for a very long time. I could not make it in military police because I was disgusted by a culture that celebrated any opportunity to use force. Speaking out will put a target on your back. Stopping it in the moment will end your career. Only public outrage can turn thw wheels of change here in any meaningful way.
