ReplyI think parties are for stupid people. If you don’t know how to make up your own mind and you say well I want to be considered this type of person or that type of person that’s why there’s parties anymore that and it helps the politicians control the map and not late independent in
ReplyWith only two political parties we are often left with a choice between two evils. So we don’t really vote FOR a candidate. We vote AGAINST the candidate we DON’T want. Others have invested their identities on party ideology and only vote along party lines regardless whether or not they even know anything about the candidate or their qualifications. Because of the history of failure of third parties, most people consider it as “throwing your vote away” to vote for a third party candidate. But in some countries who have multiple political parties they use an “alternate vote” system or ranking system whereby you are allowed a secondary vote so if your candidate loses your vote would be passed on to your alternate choice. That seems like a good way to encourage alternate parties to form without being crushed by the main two.

Replyya gotta vote smart in the primaries. we are not, as a voting public, sophisticated enough to do expand beyond a 2 party rule. we just aren’t. maybe one day, but not today. perot tanked bush 1. nader tanked gore. purists gave us trump over hilary because they were mad about bernie not getting the nom. democrats are too ungovernable to win without total unity and support of the candidate.. vote smart, not perfect.

ReplyA third party doesn’t work in USA because people are idiots. “If I vote for them, it would be a ‘wasted vote’, because they can’t win, so, no point voting for them”. Idiotic, and misses two points completely.
1) It’s ONLY when one of the established parties LOSE ENOUGH VOTES (either to the other, or a 3rd choice) that ANY change to their standards comes about; it’s NOT a wasted vote – it’s a MESSAGE.
2) When everyone dissatisfied follows this idiotic formula, OF CORSE the 3rd party “can’t win”. However, if EVERYONE who is dissatisfied DOES VOTE for the 3rd party, IT WOULD WIN; it’s not a wasted vote – it would work.

ReplyPeople are afraid to vote for parties that look like they might accurately reflect their views. “Don’t vote green or republicans win” is the use of fear. People already vote the two parties because of fear and that helps the two parties dominate.
