ReplyAlbum cover = artwork that goes on the cover (front or sleeve) of an album. For example, the front of a CD has the album cover.
Cover album = an album of popular songs covered (sung) by a different artist (not the original artist). For example, YouTube has a ton of videos of nonprofessional singers covering (singing) hit songs by Beyoncé, Adele, etc. If someone collected these covers (remakes) and put them in an album, the result would be called a cover album.

ReplyI get where Trevor’s coming from. In my country, poor folks don’t have money to buy official albums from musicians — especially foreign acts — so most of them would just buy a bootleg “greatest hits” record performed and arranged by no-name or session players. You go to a local sari-sari store or ride a jeepney, and the music they’d be playing would often sound off: either the singer wasn’t right, or the drums were obviously a machine when the band had a drummer, or the instrumentation was simplified.
