Racist, sure…and what about the misogyny? Please call that out too. We love our fellas that knit, and hook and spin, but we are a predominantly female bubble.
    Proud to be a Raveler.

I woke up to this crap this morning – several messages from members stating they were quitting Ravelry and encouraging me to join the exodus. I had no idea what was going on as it was too damned early and I don’t participate in the forums on Ravelry. I have stayed away from the crochet/knit community in general because they are all pretty cut-throat and intolerant in general and also surprisingly unoriginal for creative people. I just do my own thing. But it didn’t really surprise me that it happened and it didn’t surprise me that was Ravelry’s response.

As much as this is humorous on the surface, it is a very good sign. It means people are reclaiming their social boundaries and norms. We’ve put up with too much hate speech. People have the right to free speech but they do not have the absolute right to commandeer public platforms to spew their hatred.

The hate trolls very often leave comments designed to provoke anger and revulsion in the reader. This needs to stop. If people want free speech, let them “put their money where their mouth is.” Leave off the fake monikers and put their real name out there. Take the social consequences of their speech. Let media do a documentary on how dysfunctional their lives have been to make them haters and cowards. Let’s see why they blame others for their own failings.

As a side note, Colbert should have expected it from the knitting community. They have more “balls” than the average person. 😉

actually angry because they’re no longer allowed to fulfill their sick-in-the-head need to spew their racist rhetoric…@ a knitting forum..unbelievable…trump supporters, they have *no* bottom.. soulless, sociopathic, wannabe humans & too lazy to start their own sad, knitting forum.. because, wouldn’t they enjoy that more?? immersed in a swamp-filled knitting world all their own?…oh, right: none of them wanted to pay the hosting fees.. typical.

…clearly you’ve never met anyone under 60 who knits. As a knitter myself, I can tell you each of us has at least 10 different ways to kill you with just some needles and yarn. Also, I think I oughta get a Ravelry account…

I have to say, had they gone the other way, it would have really hurt not to use their site any more. Seriously, it’s a great site for Knitters.

I swear trump supporters and white supremacists are the most toxic people in the world. And it’s not the only example of this….

Actually, Stephen, Wool is one of the few materials that will still keep you warm while it’s soaking wet.
it’s Very good for cold AND wet days.

But, you might want to wear sock liners underneath them socks.
