Officer Kim Potter is charged with second degree manslaughter for the death of Daunte Wright, and the mayor of Brooklyn Center acknowledges that none of the city’s police officers live in the area. When police officers approach dont try to get in your car and escape, This is the problem in America we ignore the truth and sugar coat stories to make people hate each other how about we black start obeying police officers, am black too i watch the video the officer was wrong to shoot him but why would he try to escape

I am willing to march for more police funding… as long as that funding goes to training police to de-escalate situations rather than aggravate them by reaching for their guns first!
‘Serve and protect’ the public rather than ‘all people should be treated as lethal threat.’
Police should keep their guns but rather than walk up to every situation unholstering it or yelling ‘put your hands where we can see them’ how about emphasizing a ‘let’s keep calm’ opener. (and as we know from a few days ago even when an army officer clearly knows the rules and keeps his arms ‘where we can see them’ he was treated as if he was an imminent threat for a routine traffic stop)

The sad thing is that for every one of these situations that make it to national news there are hundreds that don’t. It’s not just a few exceptional cases. We have seen this through the decades. Even before body cameras we knew these kept happening all the time but of course those in power kept saying ‘oh it’s a black guy complaining? He’s just exaggerating. It’s thousands of black guys complaining? They are all exaggerating.’
‘DWB’ is not a myth. If you think it is, first I will bet you are not black yourself and second I dare you to spend even a single week being a passenger in a black friend’s car. Watch how the way cops keep checking on your friend’s driving is different than how they keep checking a white friend’s driving. (and for that matter how you keep checking your black friend’s driving yourself!)

I first heard this argument about police not living in the city they serve over 40 years ago in Chicago. Didn’t solve a thing. A cop is a cop. They are not our friends, even if they are our neighbors.

Black people are supposed to bow (completely) to the White man’s CO. We should never forget why there are police in the first place. They are there so White society feels safe from Black people. It is an organized, and legalized gang put in place to control whoever Whites feel are a threat to their way of life. It’s called “Systematic Racism”.

They manipulate, scheme, plot and do anything legal and illegal to retain Power. Out with the old in with the new your time is over.

It’s so sad how many are justifying what happened b/c he was no choir boy. They don’t realize that is not supposed to matter. They stopped him for a traffic violation in the 1st place. The cop should be charged with negligence too since a veteran cop is using the excuse they didn’t know they shot the gun instead of a taser.

I love it when Trevor talks about this. As much as I like Seth Meyers and Stephen Colbert, they’ll never be able to keep it as real as him about this stuff. George Floyd was probably the only one who will get their full attention, because they primarily tailor their content for white audiences who don’t want to feel “bummed out” about black and brown bodies. Regardless of what a person does for a career, most people do NOT work in the same city as they reside. Trevor’s examples don’t hold a lot of weight, and a person does not have to work in a city to care about the people who live there. It is NOT human nature to treat people differently (worse) in communities where other people may live. I travel all over the country, and I am polite to everyone and value them all as humans. I travel to learn about other people and embrace how they may live their lives.

Plain and simple, Wright should not of broke free and assaulted a police officer. As the events unfold, the police officer that pulled her gun instead of her taser could have been instantly killed with her partner if wright had a pistol of shotgun. If takes a few micro second for someone like wright to have pulled his pistol (If he had one). Officers don’t know if he’s armed or not. Soon, neighborhoods like thus will become lawless cities and when you call the police, they will not come to your aid. I have been there, my town was and still is a dump! Rapes, break ins, car Jack, drug dealings and constant shootings from rival gangs will soon pervade in this city like an unstoppable cancer! No police no law and order just deviants with no regards to community and law enforcement.

So it matters that police officers live in close proximity to the people their policing? Didn’t seem to matter during the capital riots. People came from all over the country to storm the capital yet very few of those people were gunned down and killed. Police showed an amazing amount of restraint. So if living close to one another isn’t the thing what else could it be that stops police from murdering people? Let’s see oh yeah skin color seems to be the deciding factor every time all the time.

So how is it racist when its an accident, When the kid was breaking the law, expired plates, arrest warrant, fighting with cops, Is that ok? If he hadnt done any of that he would be alive today. That same day 2 young men were murdered by a criminal, what about the high crime in the neighborhood?. What about all the times police save people? What about the mayor is black, police administrator was black, one of the cops on the incidence was black?, Where is the the racism?, It looks more like revenge to me!

I spent time travelling around the US for several months – some of the most beautiful countryside I have ever seen, but the poverty i saw in the towns and cities shocked me, I’d never seen anything like it in the UK and I lived in London and Manchester which have very poor areas. Yes in the US I met some really nice people but I also encountered so many people with mental health problems just coming up to me in the streets saying scary things or following me. I came home disillusioned and disappointed about the American dream 10 years ago. Now it seems the country is so divided on so many fronts and seems to be getting worse I actualy wonder if these isdues can be solved and how that could even happen?
