Conan clearly is only getting funnier with age…so his fears are definitely unfounded! And I think the podcast format has only allowed him to be less guarded and formulaic. It’s a great fit, which I’m sure is surprising for a lot of people who got use to Conan sitting behind a late night desk for decades.

According to Mel Brooks’ 1975 “Playboy” Magazine interview, “We mentioned Raisinets in ‘Blazing Saddles’ and now the company sends me a gross of them every month. A gross of Raisinets!”

Conan: Thank you Hans for being the first caller on Conan Needs a Friend, and I mean ever because this is NOT a call in show.

If anyone is interested in the long form interview with Mel Brooks that Conan was referring to, it’s here on YouTube, search “serious jibber jabber mel brooks”, and you’ll get it.

There’s something weird that happens in a war zone. You are always a little fatigued and tired (or extremely), and on edge(. The brain can only handle so much of that nonsense so it will make you want to laugh even when there aren’t too many reasons to. So I can only imagine that those comedians that served in WW2 probably were huge moral boosts for the people around them.
