ReplyI am 24 years old and have begun my third year of teaching on a full time contract. I graduated college by the time I was 20 and got my credential the following year. Can someone please explain to me why I still need to live with my parents because I cannot find rent that is affordable for my salary? It is ridiculous how expensive rent is and how little I am paid compared to other professions. For extra context, I went to a cal state because that was what I could afford… I finished paying off my student debt 2 months ago. That new respect would mean a lot more if teachers got paid a respectable wage and congress funds the school districts to help with the upcoming budget shortfall.
Replyprogressive denyer bill
ReplyIf you side with your kid all the time , why sending him/her to school?
ReplyWow, spoken like a REAL parent!!

ReplyI am a Teacher, and I approve of Bill’s message.
Reply4:17 This triangle you speak of, also included the teacher strapping the kid, who then goes home and gets strapped again by the parent, and if they’re really unlucky, both parents and the uncle! University education departments have no grip on reality at all. The ‘murican education system sucks as it is and despite their best efforts the education system is just as bad as before, they’ve just altered the method of child abuse.
ReplyMy girlfriend looked at teaching positions once, and the pay is so loww
ReplyHoly shit? What’s up with this audience? Clapping after every single one-liner, god damnit… Clapping stock, makes me wish the full lockdown returns
ReplyAgree. But there’s also such a thing as a bad teacher. I think the system needs to be improved to take firmer/quicker action to deal with such teachers.
ReplyIt’s weird to me, that Bill is considered left leaning, when he ascribes to so many right wing beliefs.
ReplyI like how he took a conversation that was meant to “thank teachers”, and sent down the holes to name a few; Authority rule, punishing a generation for being too needy (a typical and tired trope of any older generation), congratulating China in its better job numbers because all the kids are so much smarter than a to the government of china…? And that it has nothing to do with forced labor, poor labor, and the use of them all a government cog to make the government money to keep its lower globally.
Not a single mention of better pay for teachers, better funded schools, to name the easiest things to even consider if you know anything about the struggles teachers actually have.
Also, I think it’s always important to remember that Bill is an anti-vaxxer. It seems that no one he speaks to wants to discuss this issue with him, so just making sure more people know.
The late Bernie Mac said it best, “…punk ass parents “
ReplyF isn’t for failure, it’s for formation. You learn from it.

ReplyThank you, Bill. 🙏🏼 I’m a high school teacher in The Netherlands and I once was the mentor of a kid whose father sued the school and let his son sometimes record what was happening in class. That disrupted dynamic had so much influence on other things and on a lot of colleagues, it was awful. In the end the father wasn’t allowed to come to school anymore, even on graduation day. So sad, especially for the kid.
Replya trophy for everyone results in a trophy having no value.
ReplyJust respecting teachers for tolerating the presence of the students is ridiculous. Many teachers are incompetent. Most do not have a basic knowledge or skill set. When I and my children entered college we signed up and were freshmen and we graduated in 3 to 4 years. Now, most students entering college spend their first year taking remedial courses for basic topics like math, reading comprehension, grammar. Because the education they received was so substandard that despite being high school graduates they can not successfully meet expectations at the college level. Teachers should have to take competency tests and be forced to meet standards or leave the profession.
