I watched one TrumPist’ say if Jesus himself came down and said something against trumP, they’d believe trumP! That’s how depraved they are.

Somehow people use even more twisted logic to justify bad politics than the brainwashing they received to become religious.
I’m guessing the vast majority of Republicans still think Don Jr didn’t email that guy to set up a meeting with the Russians, even though Don Jr was the one that released his own emails, on Twitter. There’s nothing to “believe” or interpret or anything there, that’s just a flat out fact, he emailed a contact with the intent of having a sit down for intelligence from the Russians. If you still don’t think it’s true, you’re not highly politically biased, you’re mentally insane.

But it’s good to know someone’s politics. If someone is lock step in with Trump and modern Republican policies, then they’re not good people.Political beliefs are based on personal values.

Dude is dissing on — and bitching about — what is, in fact, his very own gimmick. His shows ARE about political conversation and debate. Jesus, Bill. You’re losin’ it, man.

My Mom has a ‘time out table’ for anyone who brings up politics at Thanksgiving. I’m always sat there… but still… good idea.

Just discuss the issues. The political past comes afterwards… when issues start off being discussed pilitically, it’s counter productive…

What about Racism? Bill is always wrong. He’s wrong again. Ignore Racist Policies? Fuck you.

First – really? Bill Maher is trying to tell the rest of us to “shut the fuck up” about politics? Has he ever met himself?

Second, I totally disagree, but I would concede that there’s a time and a place to talk politics, and that’s probably not around the family dinner table. But there DO have to be times and places where these things are talked about and argued about, because the stakes are simply too high, and it’s important to at least try to understand what motivates those who disagree with you. Progress almost always comes through compromise, and how can you compromise with someone if you don’t know what their needs are?

I quite disagree with this. “Politics” is increasingly important to humanity’s very survival, and so it is inevitable that it would be talked about more. We actually do need — *_desperately_* — to start seeing things from others’ points of view. Both sides are bigoted at the moment: One of them against Mexicans and women, another against the “fly-over” states. Also, both of them are bigoted against animals (factory farming is an atrocity) and teenagers (our current educational system has little to no regard for individual differences). Each party could learn a lot from the other, and both parties could learn a lot from intellectuals like me. At the end of the day, however, we likely won’t be able to appropriately deal with the increasing complexity of life, and our days are probably numbered. Look up John B. Calhoun’s Universe 25 experiment. The fact that human cranial volume has been shrinking over the past 20,000 years is _not_ a good sign, evolutionarily speaking. In fact, it will probably turn out to have been a very _bad_ sign.

The problem talking about politics is one side doesn’t care about reality and facts. That’s what makes it hard to talk about politics.

  • Jack Perdue 2 years ago

With a president like the current one, the goal isnt to get along, its to keep our democracy alive. Under normal circumstances, avoid political conversations, but in the era of the war on facts, conversation is about all we have left.
