There’s not a night in this city of Halifax Nova Scotia that the song doesn’t get performed, along with an enthusiastic crowd, complete with claps and table thumps
ReplyWow as a Halifax, Nova Scotia girl this was soul-enriching! Bravo!
ReplyWOW Stephen Colbert, awesome voice!
ReplyWonderful interview great info and stories
ReplyLove this so much. As a Nova Scotian who moved to the US (Happily married for 5 years to a guy I met on Final Fantasy years ago >^.~<) This song has my heart <3 thank you so very much for calling it to life again <3
ReplyOur son has gotten into the Dreadnoughts lately, so I knew who Stan Rogers was. It’s great that Michael knew it once it started.
ReplyCheck out Robert Shaw corale “Sea Shanties”
ReplyI picture mr. Colbert on his boat singing away sound carries well across water and in water for that matter,Stan Rodgers has been remembered thank you for this moment in time.
ReplyI love Michael Buble, He is a very talented musician. I cannot wait to get his new album which is coming soon.
ReplyBuble has obviously not spent enough time in The Lower Deck. Stephen would fit right in though.
ReplyI tell everyone I was ahead of the sea shanty craze.
ReplyI usually watch Steven’s monologue before turning in, but since he was interviewing Buble, I decided to watch a bit more of the show. I damned near fell out of bed when he asked Michael if he knew Stan Rogers and had ever heard of Barrett’s Privateers. I’m a born and bred Maritimer and lived in Halifax for nine years. Anytime that song is sung in a pub, EVERYONE joins in, singing at the top of their voices and thumping the tables and floorboards. I have been a Stan Rogers fan forever, and remember the sad day when he died in that Air Canada plane fire in Cincinnati back in 1983. Stephen, you have been to New Zealand. I think you should also experience the rare treat of visiting Halifax and joining in a cappella in a crowded pub like the Lower Deck singing a rendition of Barrett’s Privateers. I guarantee you won’t forget the experience. Cheers!
ReplyDrunken Sailor, all time favorite.
ReplySometimes Stephen reminds me of my dad, he would bust out singing Irish songs.
ReplyLove the song. And Mr. Colbert has a fine voice.
