She’s cute but her version of feminism is not actual modern feminism.
Modern feminism is a bunch of fucking Satan spawn.

Your show is mediocre. Couldn’t care less about the “stronger messages”
present in your show if the quality of the writing and direction make
various fan films I’ve seen look like the work of Christopher Nolan and
    Drew Goddard by comparison.

I like her, but the show is not great. It’s not bad by any means, but when
going up against heavy hitters like The Flash, Daredevil, and Arrow, and
with Jessica Jones on the way, it is just a little lacking. I’m actually
enjoying this season of Agents of Shield more than I did the pilot of
    Supergirl.

I feel like she’s completely unaware of what modern feminism is. I also
feel kind of bad for her because I’m sure she’s going to be enlightened
(rather harshly) by thousands of individuals online during the oncoming
weeks. At least she’ll learn the truth.

Was the show tonight? Guess i missed it, though i’d seen the leaked pilot
and other than the stupid decision to make her story more like Superman’s
    aka growing up on Earth.
The beating you over the head with the really stupid feminist garbage was
the most irritating thing about the pilot. In particular the dumb line from
the general about her getting coffee.

Actually that’s the worst speech that she could have done, Supergirl and
I’m talking about the comic book character is just a superhero, she’s not
promoting any type of propaganda, she’s Supergirl period, there’s no need
for her to make that kind of statements.

OK. This is practically the definition of a perfectly innocuous video which
on its face seems like it couldn’t possibly offend anyone. And yet within
minutes of it being uploaded, it’s already received a really inordinate
flurry of thumbs-down, probably for the unconscionable crime of having the
word “feminist” in its title. It’s sad that so many people seem to have
such a thoughtlessly antagonistic reaction to the word.

The dislike ratio proves exactly how ingrained misogyny is in our
culture….had she been talking about a racially diverse role or any other
role which broke stereotypes besides gender, there would be a much more
positive response….but because the notion of having a female outside the
usual supportive or sexualised character is so unfathomable and goes beyond
the realm of ‘open-mindedness’ (I mean cmon this is Stephen Colbert not
    fucking Fox?!?!), it’s automatically chastised….I thought Stephen’s
audience was better than that tbh….turns out there’s more redneck hicks
    then I thought…

It makes me sad how its hated how being a feminist is looked down upon. If
you believe in equality then you are a feminist no matter what. I didn’t
think that it was so wrong if someone wants equality for all.

Technically supergirl in the New 52 is more powerful than superman because
she was supercharged by the sun when her space pod was caught in the orbit
of the yellow star before she landed onto earth. Frankly having a superhero
with no apparent weaknesses seems like the worst premise to base a show on.
The only weaknesses she has is kryptonite, a red sun and magic, all of
which are rare and/or located very far away from earth.

the fact that she’s empowering feminists is troublesome, but at least it’s
not prevalent in the show and she is being a good role model for young
    girls and women.
also I forgot to mention one more thing – her name is “Supergirl” because
she was originally a child. I still dont understand why the hell the
writers devised such a half-assed version of supergirl, but thats just me.

Well of course a feminist tv series would portray the villain as a male
chauvinistic pig. “Back on my planet the women bow before the men!”

Yeah that’s what feminism is all about these days, blaming men for all the
inequality. I suppose women who willingly cling to men solely for their
money aren’t at fault! No arguments against the archaic law of alimony
either! What a feminist Kim Kardashian must be for being an empty headed
    selfie-book publishing glamour queen!
It’s not hard to understand the negative connotations that come along with
the term “feminism” these days; its message has gradually distorted into
    that of anti-men.

The pilot was so cheesy. Typical comic book children’s show, once again. We
need something dark instead these wannabe hero shows where all is fine and
dandy and nobody ever dies. I want to see the world burn in my TV shows,
not this butterflies bullshit. We need hardcore version of Punisher. That
    would be something worth watching.

This clip feels a bit manufactured, like they had a message they wanted to
send with it, I was pretty impressed actually when she was basically asked
to make a statement aligning with one party she spits out “The show is for
everyone.” Not just for one party but meant for everyone, THAT is equality.
Now hopefully they can make the show a critical success.

Just here to say, they need to step their game up. CW is killin it with the
Flash and Arrow, but this shit? its… not interesting, the writing felt
rushed and cheesy. its just felt like a generic show about a lady with
    powers.

Lucifer Morningstar on the other hand was Fukin awesome. funny, clever,
    interesting plot.

and to those who may think I hate feminist/females/w.e because I commented
about a shitty show. Well I’m excited for Jessica Jones cause that actually
    loooks good, unlike Supergirl.

Netflix, CW, AMC are all we need.

Love how she’s becoming a role model for kids, especially young girls. Like
in that photo — those girls aren’t just in a SG costume. They’re in their
Girl Scout uniforms. I think kids today realize that while superheroes
might be fictional, the good they accomplish in their fictional world can
be achieved by us in real life.

There shouldn’t be so many dislikes on this video just for mentioning
feminism, nothing was said that I had problem with. She seems like a lovely
girl and a good actress. But modern feminism is disliked, especially on the
internet, not because guys are all sexist and don’t support women’s rights,
but because the beliefs and actions of many well-known feminists in the
mainstream have made the entire movement seem misinformed, controlling and
highly intolerant of criticism. The current and growing distaste for
feminism among men and women, is at the the end of the day the fault of
feminists for allowing some of the loudest, most radical feminists to speak
    for the entire movement.

If you remove the word “feminist” I’d like to hear anyone object to
anything she said. It’s fine if people are opposed to other examples of
“feminism” but to judge her by things she is not saying or doing does not
make sense. Feminism is certainly contentious but to oppose anyone or
anything attached to that label is narrow-minded. I’m very much and
advocate of male issues/concerns and not a big fan of what is being called
the “regressive left” but videos/comment sections like this is why I refuse
to be “anti-feminist.” I’m not against the things that feminists such as
Melissa Benoist claim to be for. How she identifies herself or her show is
not my concern. What she actually says and does is what’s worth discussing.
Frankly, inspiring little girls like she did in that photo Stephen held up
    is awesome.

That’s a bait and switch. Sure, they’ll tell you that’s what it means to
get you interested. But then you learn that, in order to be a REAL
feminist, you also have to believe in this other bullshit, like PATRIARCHY
and RAPE CULTURE, as well as the FALSE STATISTICS that feminism is
responsible for spreading, like the “wage gap” lie and the “1 in 5” lie.
Feminism is an IDEOLOGY that is NOT BASED on FACTS.
