It’s not literally meditating but it has helped a lot.
Once the breathing is sorted out it becomes easier to meditate
ReplyBack in the day those monkeys would have been busy with the typewriters
ReplyPatent Tryptophan
ReplyConan needs to experience a sensory deprivation tank
ReplyTurn some lights on in the studio.
ReplyIts more like a bundle of little clurichaun and/or leprechaun!!!
ReplySomebody tell Conan there are meditations where he doesn’t have to sit still!
ReplyWhenever people talk about “being present” and the way their degree of consciousness dictates their interaction with the world, I wish they would use Heideggerian terminology, just because it would help paint a really precise definition of what they mean. As such, the conversation presumes a high degree of shared understanding that I don’t think innately exists. There’s an untapped conversation here in regards to the modalities of Dasein and the interplay comedy has between states like _present-at-hand_ and _ready-at-hand,_ because the fundamental ontology of comedy is probably the most fruitful social domain there is because comedy is practically pure etymology.
ReplyTo Conan – What you’re doing here, during this podcast, that is MEDITATION. Meditation doesn’t always look like sitting still and closing eyes. Peace.
ReplyConan: look up Dzogchen meditation. You just haven’t had a good teacher try different styles. Anyone can meditate! It may be different for you but advanced meditators will know how to manage it. My friend had schizophrenia and he manages it with meditation but he hired a full time Buddhist to help him!
Replyhilarious 😂 and kumail’s meditation advice is spot on
ReplyKumail was not kidding when he said he’s Conans BEST friend 😂
ReplyTry Sadhguru’s meditation. I swear it’s life changing
ReplyAs someone with somewhat severe ADHD, I can totally relate to Conan (minus the murdering everyone part 😅).
There is always chaos happening in my mind, never a quiet moment for me to collect myself or think a single linear thought. The *one* time I successfully meditated—almost exactly one year ago from writing this—I literally cried because that was my first time, possibly ever, experiencing what a quiet mind is like. I was so excited, amazed, and shocked that I had to tell a friend about it immediately, I didn’t know what else to do 😂. I’ve never been able to replicate it since then, despite even practicing the same meditation technique, which doesn’t really help with the depression part.
So when Conan is making these jokes using metaphors, I genuinely understood exactly what he was saying. And when he basically said, in a defeated tone, “no one here understands me, I apologize,” my heart sank. I get that he’s still joking a bit, but that’s exactly how it is. You exhibit ADHD symptoms or try to explain the chaos, then you read the room, then apologize for even saying anything.
ReplyMeditation: get comfortable. Then start thinking about your toes, try to feel them without moving them or touching them. Locate them and feel them. One by one, each toe. Then move to the foot, the bottom of the feet, the top of the feet, then ankle. Try to locate them in your head and feel them. Before you get to knees, you are “in it”.
Reply“It was the best of times, it was the blurst of times…” – Damn Monkeys!!
ReplyThis Kumail Naniiani interview on the podcast is by far the best of the “Returns” episodes.
